The area
Neighborhood: Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..

A nice park area and situated near a tram line. There is a water fountain within the park that was constructed in 1732 (Tophane Square Fountain) used for travellers and running water for praying people's ritual washing needs, although it is no longer running water. During it's lifetime, it has seen two major restoration (1837 and 1956/57) A nice structure and worth a photo snap if in the area. There is a information board on site explaining some of it's history and it is a few minutes away from the tram line. Karabaş Mustafa Ağa Camii (Mosque) is also situated with the park as are toilets (WC's) next to the mosque. There did seem to be quit a lot of stray dogs during our visit that were simply lying around on the grass areas.

Near Bosporus and many historical foundations. Tophane Parki is a small park, few chairs to sit and opened to public. Many shops, restaurants and cafes as well as a cozy pedestrian road leading to Galata Tower.

A cozy park, rather a square. On Tophane Square in Beyoglu in 1732, on the instructions of Mahmud I, a remarkable fountain of the same name square was built, which reflected the transition in the architecture of the city to the baroque style. The fountain is included in the complex along with the nearby Kilic Ali Pasha mosque. The architect was Mehmed Aga, and the author of the inscription on the stela of the fountain is the famous poet Nahifi. Niches with lancet arches are made in the usual Ottoman style, but they perfectly match the baroque cornice. Vegetable fountain ornaments also create a special color. Right at the entrance to the park on the left are the tombs of Gazi Osman and his son Ghazi Orhan, the founders of the Ottoman Empire. And the central alley leads directly to the clock tower and a battery of old guns.

Nice part of a series of monuments alongside the bosphorus. Walked most of this and again think it added to the experience. The hamam looked nice, wasn't able to go due to lack of time though

On our first day in Istanbul, 23rd February 2015, when we decided to come back to the hotel from Taksim Square, we opted to walk back to T1 Tophane Terminal instead of taking a risk and trying some other local transportation as yet. The walk was downhill thus it was not an issue and we reached there by 8:42pm. While waiting at T1 Tophane Terminal I noticed this big mosque just behind the waiting bench. I went to take a look but unfortunately it was closed at that time. There was some snow just next to its walls which was nice to see after coming from Riyadh. I peaked into the building through the big grills in walls, it looked nice and I noticed a miniature model of this mosque was also placed inside.
Across the street I noticed a small block shaped building, to find out what it is I took a round around it but couldn't figure out. It had no doors or windows and it was beautifully made. Later I came to know that it was one of the famous fountains of Istanbul. My idea of fountain was some water thrown up in the air but then I came to know that the place used for Wazu/Wadu (washing before prayer/Namaz/Salah) is called a fountain in Turkey. The Masjid’s own fountain was inside the walls of the Masjid thus this fountain was not used for washing but historically used for supplying drinking water to the area.
Location: 41.026610, 28.980991
Opening Time: Most probably from Morning Prayer (Fajr) to Night Prayer (Isha). It was closed at 8:42pm when I reached there.

Time Required: 30min

Small local park in the Tophane area. Close to Kilic Ali Pasa and Nusretiye Mosque. The park has a playground and basketball court. You can also see the Tophane Fountain from here.

Just close to main street, there is too much traffic noisy, you can find a few historical places near the park such as Tophane-i Amire.

we spend one night here,... actually arrived around sunset,.. it was packed with people but mostly locals,... we ate and sampled all the street foods available,... had tea in one of the cafes overlooking the river,... it gets chilly during the night because of the water so bring something warmer with you,... nothing especial about it,... but I liked the vibe of the place,...
