Rug Shopping w. expert, private

Safe and fast rug shopping opportunity with a local expert to make your shopping spree hassle-free and as pleasant as possible, makes this tour unique. I am a rug expert and writer a book about rugs. "All you need to know before Buying Oriental Rugs"- I know all about the handmade Turkish rugs very well because this had been our family business in the past. I have many connections in the rug market such as small or big rugdealers, wholesalers etc. I can be very helpful if you are looking for a Turkish rug during your trip to Istanbul. Turkey is recognized throughout the world for their magnificent hand-woven rugs. The carpets are like fine art: unless you really know what you are looking for, it is easy to be fooled or scammed into buying something that is not of real quality and turns out to be a bad investment. Go with an expert!

He was knowledgeable and able to explain the history of Istambul. I was the perfect layover tour - we saw what was important, had something to eat and went shopping. He know where to shop for the best value and managed our time in the most efficient way.

We had an amazing time during our layover! The new airport is lovely, but getting out of the airport and seeing the city with a local expert was definitely the way to go. I’ve been to Istanbul before but my husband hadn’t so I wanted to make sure he got a great experience during our short time. We were picked up in a very nice Mercedes and our guide, Metin, discussed what we most wanted to do with our time and then made a plan for exactly what we wanted to do. We had a delicious local breakfast, walked through the spice bazaar, and visited the blue mosque as well as seeing The Hagia Sophia. We never would have been able to see that much on our own, or known where to go. Metin also gave us amazing context and information in each location and answered all of our questions 😊. Ali and Metin are both wonderful to work with. Highly recommend!

The Grand Bazaar and surrounding streets full of stalls are a fascinating mix of old and new. Don’t worry about safety, you feel very safe and not scared to walk around freely any time of day or night. Weekends do get really busy as locals also visit but even though it’s crowded you still feel safe. The main covered area which is known as the bazaar does feel very commercial and more like a Mall as each stall has a sign and standard size but the many many streets surrounding the area are the old style traditional stalls that you imagine a bazaar to be like. Street after street of narrow walkways with all kinds of wares for sale. There’s food and restaurant areas, and dessert cafes, all of which give a nice resting place before more shopping. There’s no pressure to buy, in fact the stall holders wait for you to approach, not like many years ago. You won’t find and gold or jewellery stalls but spices, Turkish delight, fruit, nuts, traditional crafts, bags, T-shirt’s and souvenirs are in abundance.

Heard and read about Ali and his tours well before coming to Istanbul. We were going on a 13-day escorted tour of Turkey and wanted to spend 3-4 days in Istanbul before our tour. Of course, we book these days with Ali. We knew that he was a busy guide; therefore, we booked well in advance. Ali exceeded our expectations. He has a very amicable and easy-going attitude. There was never any pressure to accept any part of a proposed itinerary, only reasonable advice and suggestions. There were options for visiting these or those sights, transportation options and we, the clients, were free to choose. Our tours started at the time promised, without any major delays. Ticket lines were skipped because Ali came prepared. During the excursions, ample time was allowed for photography. There was also sufficient time for rest, eating, and other needs as we went along. There was no rush. Of note also is Ali's knowledge of history of his country and his ability to answer the questions without evading the answers and or hesitation. Overall, I highly recommend Ali as a guide but remember, your tours with him would go smoother if you do your "homework" as well, namely, read about Istanbul, decide what you do or do not want to see and do in the city, then contact Ali for advice as to how to accomplish this better. Planning your day(s) with Ali helps a lot.
