About
The Istanbul Cable Car is a mode of everyday commuter transport that takes you to a hilltop overlooking splendid views of the Golden Horn and the Bosporus River. You can purchase tokens with coins or small notes for either a one- or two-way ride, or use your Istanbulkart to get a discount on the fare. Lines for the cable car are known to be rather long—visit in the early morning for fewer crowds. The cable car is also one of the stops of the hop-on-hop-off bus, and can be combined with a jaunt around Eyup’s main shopping district. – Tripadvisor

The area
Neighborhood: Sisli
For much of Istanbul’s history, Sisli and the area just north of Taksim Square were open countryside used mostly as hunting grounds. These days, Sisli and its chic streets are considered the very heart of contemporary Istanbuli life, where an epicenter of fashion and a thriving business district meet to create an expressly “downtown” feel. Though largely a residential neighborhood, luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, and upscale shops abound with many of them situated inside or nearby Cevahir Istanbul, the biggest shopping mall in Europe and second biggest urban shopping mall in the world. Shopaholics and fashionistas travel from near and far to browse the area's mix of major global brand items and creations by popular Turkish designers.

Your Istanbul card equivalent to the oyster card in London can be used on the cable car. As luck would have it we ended up taking the back streets and roads to the summit via the main shopping district in Eyup. Initially we had wanted to take the cable car to the top luckily we didn't as we found out later the queues to get to the top were horrendously long. So as stated we walked to the top a very pleasant slightly challenging ascent and then took cable car down. Lovely views, ride lasts about 3-4 mins but worth doing.

Buy the Istanbul travel top up card for everything in Istanbul. Can use here too. From Eminou Bus station (On road near Spice Market and big mosque) catch Bus 99 to Eyup Sultan opposite an astro turf for football. It follows the coast. You can go wrong. At top there is great cafe serving tea coffee and snacks with wonderful views.

The T5 tram takes you directly to the Eyüpsultan Teleferik. Cross the street to the left and go to the entrance. One way with the Istanbulcard for 18 TL. The journey takes 3 minutes, at the end of March we didn't have to wait. There are always 16 people on board (2 gondolas for 8 guests each).
When you get to the top you have a beautiful view of Istanbul and it is definitely worth it. There is a restaurant with 'civilian prices'. In total you should plan on about 2 hours, including the journey there and back.

We were on the BigBus tour and saw the cable car on the map so we got off (about 1.5 hrs before the last bus). We thought we could do it and then be back in time for the last bus, but we were WRONG. We queued up for more than an hour, for a 1.5 minute ride on a small cable car! We figured out it was a waste of time and had to wait in line again for the ride down. There seemed to be a nice cafe and a good place to take some nice pictures overlooking the gold horn, but nothing more. When we got back down, we missed the bus and the rest of our tour. If you're short on time, please don't waste time here, it's just not worth it. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

This cable car was booked in as part of a sightseeing tour whilst we were visiting Istanbul..
It's NOT such a thing for tourists..
This particular cable car is infact an everyday comuter mode of transport for people who live up ontop of the high hill area..
Ques for the two cars can be easily over an hr each way..
And literally blink and the journey is over..
Seriously NOT worth paying for as part of any tour..
It costs PENNIES to use this transport..all 33p...
Yet when used in connection with a tour which costs quite alot of money, this simply put IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME..& MONEY..
At the top of the hill is a viewing area with telescope that you'll find on many UK beachfront areas that you pay too use..
And obviously there are cafés and tourist type shops( well shacks really), selling usual tourist wares..
You've been warned ⚠️

Although there isn't much to actually see here it's a nice treat for thé kids. The stalls at the bottom sell the same things that you will find throughout Istanbul but the cable car itself is actually quite cheap n the view from atop is amazing. The coffee shop doesn't have a variety of things but it's a nice stop off especially during the humid weather. I would suggest you try the corn in a cup though. The vendor seems to take a lot of pride in his goods and it's actually quite yummy. The kids also enjoy the ride up and down the mountain.

we have liked cable car to perrira loti. It is most beautiful natural scene to enjoy from the top. One can easily reach here by taxi from sultanhmet TL 16 or by bus from Eminonu or by Golden horn trip by sea. Come to Eyup masque and just back side of mosque there is station to take you top of hill in TL 3 only. You can also use your Travel pass for bus, ferry and for going up on hill. It is most beautiful place to visit. You require 1 to 2 hours to complete the full visit and return back.

A few minutes ride to the top and you have a magnificent view of the Golden Horn!
Cheap and convenient (you can use your Istanbul card to board).
At the top of the hill there are cafes and shops, at the bottom, there's the splendid Mosque and tomb of the Prophet Mohammed's (pbuh) companion, Abu Ayub al Ansari.
Worth the visit.

Don't bother boarding the cable car it's seriously not worth it. I suggest just see the view fell the top which is the highlight and leave. Save yourself queueing.

We found this part of our tour through the hotel. You get to go in the cable car to the top for an amazing view. Besides the view of the cemetary. It was a great view and nice short trip… Something you do once..
