One of the most attractive buildings on the Asian side of the Bosphorus must be the summer palace of the Khedive (Viceroy) of Egypt in the forest of Cubuklu high above Kanlica. Built in 1907 by an Italian architect in a style, which mixes Art Nouveau with Classicism and Neo-Ottoman Art, it was apperently called by his owner Abbas Hilmi... More

High above the Bosporus at Kanlica, the Hidiv Kasri (the khedive's villa) was built as a summer home for the Egyptian khedive in the 19th century. It has some beautiful art-nouveau details, and the grounds are a wonderful place to drink tea on hot days.

This was not on my itinerary and I had no prior knowledge of this place. I was taken there by my good friend Ali from Les Arts Turc in March 2015. I enjoyed his enthusiasm and the obvious love for his city that he is keen to share with his guests. The palace is in a beautiful setting and with... More

I went only because the NY Times included this as a must-see in theri 36 hours in Istanbul. The place is far from the main part of town, situated on a nice residential hill tip section in the north of the city. I took a bus from Kadikoy around 10 a.m. and the trip lasted more than 45 minutes, followed... More

Hidiv Kasri is a nice place to escape Istanbul's maddening crowds, you can combine a bit oh history with some welcome peace and quiet and a shady sanctuary on a summers day. Hidiv was the title to Ottoman Empire's vice regal ruler of Egypt and this graceful building was built by the last vice regal (Khedive). You can simply walk... More

We spent more than two hours trying to find Hidiv Kasri on foot. I stopped many times to ask directions and while we certainly made it to the general area I don't believe we every found the actual site. At one point two different men about 100 meters apart were giving us opposite directions--we'd walk one way to be told... More

The pavillion is completely converted into a restaurant and serves buffet breakfast everyday. The quality and the wide selection of food was far beyond my expectations. It is a bit crowded but taking the price (30,5 TL per person) into account, it should much more crowded. I would actually pay 50 TL or even more for what I get. After... More
