We were informed about the Bosphorus Tour by our hotel. We took the half day tour (35 Euros per person) which included a cruise on the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus along both the European and Asian shores (best part of the trip), a boat ride up and tram ride down Pierre Loti Hill (fun!), bus drive along City Walls (interesting),... Able to see Istanbul from a different perspective, great palaces and expensive houses along the coast. Two great bridges that span the Straight of Istanbul. The boat was very basic, but the views were not. 2.5 hours in Anadolu Kavagi was about an hour too long, walked to the Yoros Castle, where the views are breathtaking. Too many sprookers in... More

The trip up the Bosphorus is an excellent way to spend a day in Istanbul. We went with a ferry from Eminonu, the ticket office is just opposite the tram stop. The cost was 25TL and worth every penny. We decided to get the audio guide which was 10TL extra, but also well worth it. From the time we left... More

Nice Trip. Visit the Bosphorus strait, have a Kumbir ( Jacket Potato ) enjoy a nice cup of turkish tea sitting in the edge of the strait and take a day cruise, its worth a visit.

We very much enjoyed the break from the noise, traffic, and bustle of Istanbul. We hiked up to the castle and had a bite to eat at the cafe there. The food was nothing special, but the views were fabulous. As an actual site, the castle is fairly small, fairly poorly preserved, and not that much to see although interesting.... More

Wait for a nice sunny day and take the full cruise all the way to the edge of the Black Sea. For 25 TYL round trip (less than £10), about 90 minutes each way, it's a great bargain. Check the latest timetable, but when I was there the sailings from Istanbul were at 10:30, 12:00 and 13:30. In peak season... More

As it was raining heavily in the morning, our experienced guide, Mr Ali Bulent Karamanlioglu, rescheduled it to take place after 4 pm. That was a wise move. The afternoon weather was much better and we thoroughly enjoyed the cruise. Saw Istanbul from different angles, as we mingled with the local tourists. Prior to the cruise we had our late... More

We just did the half day morning cruise up the Bosphorus which stops at three locations including one on the Asia side. Excellent tour guide - couldn't be better. Saw Istanbul in a way which is only possible from the water. I suspect that the full day cruise is a few hours too long for most.

This is one of the nicest things you can do while in Istanbul. Wait for a nice sunny day. Take the full cruise all the way to the Asian side. Have a nice lunch in Anadolu Kavagi. For 25TL round trip it's a great bargain.

This was a 2 hour cruise which was worth it. You are better of buying from the local vendors than from the hotel as its cheaper. You get to see Istabul skyline which is amazing. Best time to go is in the evening during sunset.

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighborhood Profile
Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
