Lots of restaurants to choose from here. Lively outdoor atmosphere and very friendly. Rami Restaurant and Amedros were particularly good. Disliked places where you are hassled in the street to get you to come in. Liked places where dishes not all photographed on outside menu in lurid colours; instead food made from fresh ingredients as and when .

There is a lot to see in Sultanahmet area. I loved the history and culture, but hated the crowded congested places. Eid time was the worst time to visit because of that. I love cats, however, I wasn't very happy about having cats all the time intruding at my table in restaurant. Lots of cats and dogs every where!!

The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya), Basilica Cistern, Garnd Bazaar and Topkapi Palace etc. are all there. Visited by many people this district has a good selection of restaurants serving all variety of foods. There are other small markets to shop in. The place is clean too.

This is a great area. There are many good sights (including 4 losts of cisterns) within a few minutes' walk, and more a bit further in on the Eminonu peninsula if you're prepared to walk up to half and hour or so. For example, Chora museum, Sultaniye Mosque, New Mosque, Grand Bazaar... There are plenty of hotels to choose from... More

Great thing to see and eat (try) real turkish delight. I wouldn't recommended buying there because it's expensive. if you want to buy delight buy it outside the bazzar. there are cheaper places to buy right after

The "old" heart of Istanbul, it is full of attractions, all within walking distance of one another, such as the Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar, etc. Lots of good restaurants and shops.

Pro: Beautiful buildings all around! Con: Tourists everywhere at every time. Harsh turkish people trying to sell you things and "help" you do not want or need.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
