A whole city underground? Definitely something you have to visit. There's not much in there, but the whole idea behind its construction is quite exciting. It's close to the center and takes probably 20-30 mins tops. If you're curious and enjoy old history, then definitely...More

I didn't know what to expect but this was worth seeing. It was vast and very atmospheric. Hard to believe that something of this scale and complexity, in terms of getting this much water into the city, could have been built in ancient times

This is one of the places where it's palpable just how steeped Istanbul is in history - and how much of a mystery much of this history is to us today. Why are the hydra's heads upside down? We can only guess... and with the...More

Basilica Cistern is situated near Hagia Sophia so most of Tourist prefer to visit this place also. Ticket price is 20 Turkish Lira which is not worth for this place. It shows about old times water system for Palace for Sultan.

This 1800 years old cistern amazes me every time I visit. However, be aware that some sections are going through restoration, but is still attracting big crowds. The ending of Tom Hanks movie Inferno was filmed there.

We always look for different things to do. Of the beaten path, sort of thing. This isn't off the beaten path and quite close to all the major attractions in the old city of Istanbul. Hint: This is not disabled friendly. Stairs up an down....More

...have a go at this place to admire to what great lengths autocrats had to go to just have running water in their palace at the year 537 A.D. At half the price of admittance of visiting Hagia Sophia, it's not that interesting but oh...More

With so many unmissable attractions within a mere
stroll of each other – and all set around the site of

overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a
prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly
epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the
Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this
relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to

It was cash only (Lira only) when we visited in October 2016, both for the entrance fee and at the little cafe downstairs. The photobooth and the souvenir-shop accepted credit-card, both. Enjoy your visit!
