I've seen this mosque before and loved it, but when I asked the shop keeper at street level how long it would be closed, he said, "Five years - major repairs." I don't know how official that is, but it was definitely locked up tight.

Come for the tiles, stay for the chandeliers. This hidden treasure is well worth a visit (there is a bit of construction starting now, though). The blues are stunning. The old tiles are beautiful.

A smaller, older mosque across the Galata Bridge which is not as popular as the other more grander mosques but inside it is famous for its tiles. You will see the mosque listed in guide books and is worth seeking out.
