Neighborhood: Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.

We were in Turkey for 17 days, and for the first week we had a hotel near the Sirkeci and Gülhane stations. We soon decided we would probably get some mosaic ottoman lamps, and perhaps a few tiles, so on several days we stopped in the stores that were selling these sorts of items, and we also checked the Internet to make sure the prices we would get would be better than we could get online. A couple days before we left, we decided to do most of our shopping at Myth Arts. Here are the reasons:
The marked prices are very close to the prices we could get in the Grand Bazaar or in other shops, but it was easy to get discounts through bargaining, which put the prices equal-to or lower than any other place we found in Istanbul. The only way we found to get lower prices online was if you buy 30+ lamps or very large quantity of ceramics wholesale directly from a factory.
The selection of lamps was very large, among the largest of any shop we visited, but for ceramics, we never found another shop with nearly the same amount. Each shop is unique, however, so if you see something you really like elsewhere, it's possible you won't find the identical item at Myth Arts, and there isn't a big difference in prices.
Therefore, another reason we went to Myth Arts for our final purchase was the buying atmosphere. There was no pressure to buy anything at all. The five different people we met working as staff (and perhaps the older gentleman was the store owner?) were calm, relaxed, friendly, and they did not generally push us to buy. This was a lovely contrast from shop owners or staff in many other places, where customers face high-pressure sales and people who seem frantic to sell quickly. I will say, there are other shops close by on Alemdar Cad. and Taya Hatun who also provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and I'd recommend them as well. But also, the staff at Myth Arts speak English quite well, and they were willing to talk about history, current events, politics, their lives, and other topics quite casually, as we sipped apple tea. I never felt I needed to come and buy anything, they just seemed to enjoy visiting (we came in March, which is not the high season for tourists).
The location is convenient, directly facing the Gülhane tram station stop.
After purchasing some lamps and tiles, we had these heavy things shipped home. We brought a couple other heavy things we had acquired in Istanbul, which would have been a hassle to carry around for the rest of our trip, and the staff shipped those things along with what we had purchased in their store. The shipping fee was very close to what I had expected it to be.
Anyone shopping for beautiful Turkish items will, of course, want to visit the Grand Bazaar, but I think those who have time will prefer to shop on Alemdar Cad. and Taya Hatun when they are finally ready to make a purchase.
One more thing, if you want hand-painted tiles and ceramics, it is true that Mexican tiles, Chinese tiles, and even some Spanish tiles can be less expensive than the Turkish hand-painted tiles. I think the Turkish tiles are far more delightful, and also, if you are from North America, it is much more difficult to find Turkish tiles, whereas the Mexican, Chinese, and Spanish tiles are easily available (and therefore less unique).

This was one of our many visits in Istanbul but first time we entered this particular shop. We were amazed by the delightful traditional hanging and standing mosaic glass lamps. We bought 3 lamps of different size and colour and we noticed that the quality is one of a kind! We have purchased many lamps during our previous trips in Istanbul but Myth's are truly excellent, superior if compared to other shops, and the prices are also very good. Much lower than in Grand Bazaar's and other similar shops. Great value for money! Also many many thanks to the staff! Everybody and i mean everybody in this store speaks English, is so polite and sincere, so helpful and sweet. They make you feel no pressure at all, they don’t try to sell you as the typical traders. They are here, smiling and willing to answer every question and help you in every way, as much as they can and give the best discounts! So generous! They also gave us a Turkish Good Luck Spiritual Evil Eye as a gift! Really impressed by their behavior! Surely recommend this store for its goodies, its prices and its service! We will definitely visit it again, during our next trip!

Just got back from the shop..
Was there yesterday and I reserved a ceramic piece promising them to come back today.. When I arrived, the piece was already sold to somebody else.. That actually ruined my day. But they made it up for me.. The staff is friendly and well mannered. They offered a nice piece of ceramic as a present in order to make up for their mistake. It's not a big thing BUT the gesture was heart warming and that brought my good mood back..
They also offered a discount for the things that I bought. The shop has a huge collection and variety of things. I could easily spend a couple of hours in three.
I would certainly recommend this place and also go back!

In searching for lighting to take home tothe US, we came across this shop on the tram line across from Gulhane Park in the Sultanamet area. Not only was the selection and quality superior to other places we had seen during our week in Istanbul, so were the prices. Then owner was super nice, spoke English, and was able to ship purchases. We felt no pressure and were free to browse around. If you are planning to buy something nice for yourself or a gift to take home, you owe it to yourself to check this place out. Also, the store across the street sells beautiful turkish delight that they will cut fresh and vacuum seal.

I went this shop twice and the first time I asked several products without purchasing anything.
The patient staff show me what I asked and with smile from start to the end.
Therefore I went there again when I confirmed what I need. Although the previous staff was not here, they still treat my request carefully and sincerely.
The traditional Turkish tea cup sets I brought back were well wrapped that let me bring them back from long transit flight without any harm.
I highly recommend this shop and this is a good place for purchasing good stuff.

this store has a wide range of touristic products, rugs, ceramics, pillows, equipments for hammam, lamps... whatever you are looking for about turkey.... what is really nice is that salesmen don't make you push hard to buy stuff. you can take your time to take alook around and make up your mind. they are sincere and friendly but not bothersome (ohh which I hate sales men who try to be friend with me)... if you would like to enjoy shopping as I do, you've gotta go to this nice store... they have stores in galata and taksim as well. i found everything i need to take with me to my friends in abroad : )

In my opinion, this was the best store in Istanbul. The guy at the store even helped us to store our bags before our flight and recommended places we could check out.

My wife and I visited Istanbul for a few days in August and came across this shop (in search of another shop that was also recommended on Trip Advisor). We decided to stop by Myth Arts to look at the impressive collection of lamps, and was greeted by Khan and his colleague. There is an good collection upstairs, but also another area downstairs with additional styles and colours. Khan was very nice and accommodating, offering us tea, helpful with our questions, and was not at all pushy. After a while, we finally choose the colours and designs we were after, we purchased a number of lamps.
Khan also gave us some very useful tips about where to buy other things we were in search of and avoid being overcharged. We went around and found that the prices Khan gave us was very attractive in comparison to other stores, but the service was impeccable. The items were also immaculately wrapped. I would definitely recommend Myth Arts.

Myth Arts was a fantastic souvenir shop centrally located across the Gulhane Tram station. The first floor had a great selection of the usual souvenirs you'll find across Istanbul, and all at very fair and reasonable prices. There was also a showroom downstairs for better quality ceramic arts. Mr Kaan Kutur was friendly, gracious, sincere, and very helpful while showing us all of the ceramic arts and ensuring that we found what we were looking for. He truly made the Myth visit memorable and helped us bring a little piece of Turkey home with us. Thanks for everything!
