Highly recommended and worth doing.

Byram had excellent English and a great sense of humour. He looked after us well and we thoroughly enjoyed our one day walking tour of Istanbul.

We were delighted with Aykut Ayik from Sophora as our guide in Istanbul. He fashioned a very comprehensive day tour of the attractions we wanted to see with some suggestions of his own - it was fabulous ! He is very knowledgeable, flexible and considerate and four of us enjoyed his company immensely. We could not recommend him more highly... More

We contacted Aykut as per all the great reviews on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately he was booked at the time we were taking our cruise but recommended Selcuk Eracun. We decided at the last minute to take our friends with us on our private tour and I contacted Aykut by email. He responded immediately and this was no problem. Our friends... More

We've booked Aykut for only a few hours in the evening after embarkation for a cruise. We did not have much time but wanted to get a feel for the local food around the port area and we were not disappointed. He is kind , friendly, knowledgeable and fun to hang out with, which is what happened. We hanged out in... More

We booked Aykut many months before our arrival in Turkey. He seemed so flexible and willing to accommodate us....almost too good to be true. And he was!!! We actually had him booked for two days with two different groups of people which I was initially a little concerned about in the event he wasn't to our liking. However, he didn't... More

A very good private tour with knowledgable guide. A good way to see Istanbul if time is limited. No line ups at sights as the guide takes you right in!

I had never been to Istanbul before so contacted Sophora Travel to organise guided tours - and it was the best decision I ever made! I travel quite a lot and usually use a guide book accompanied by my own knowledge of the place I'm visiting. Unfortunately, my knowledge of Turkish history and Istanbul isn't really up to scratch so... More

After a disappointing overnight for my husband due to food poisoning I ventured out with Necip on my own. He met me at our hotel and proceeded to head to old town. We covered Hagia Sofia, the Cisterne, the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque and the Arabat Bazzar. As well as finding me the perfect carpet. He was friendly, easy to... More

Arriving on a cruise ship two weeks ago my wife and I had one day to tour the highlights of Istanbul. Hagia Sophia, The Blue Mosque, The Cistern, Topkapi Palace, The Hippodrome and the Grand Bazzar. Our guide, Medit Yilmaz was outstanding. He proivided great overviews and explanations of each site. His thorough knowledge of Islam helped him to put... More

We had a guided tour with Necip in the mosque : perfect ! Good rythm, good explanations, not too many, just the right tempo ! If you buy tickets from Necip you don't have to line up ! So you save probably more than 30 mn !

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
