Though the host spoke no English, we got on very well - he pointed to a picture of a multi-dish in the menu, spoke something that I imagine was explanation of the food, and I said, 'Sure - bring it on.' Hale (my guess on the spelling of his name) chose perfectly - SO good. Then he brought me stuff... More

A downhill street, full of small cute cafes, bars and restaurants. The place is full of color so that makes it kind of romantic. There is also live music! Worth visiting in order to enjoy a different night, but be aware that prices are very high. It is located behind Galatasaray School.

A very cute narrow alley , lined with tiny restaurants and bars . Kind of romantic place to skip from the crowd of the Istiklal Caddesi . Give a try ( not necessarily for dinning ) but be aware that prices are matching with the one in high end 5 star hotels . To get there ask for Galatasaray Medresesi... More

I visited this street 2 times, one in the afternoon coffee, & it was quite & colorful.. The second time was for dinner with friends.. It was totally different, vital & the music surrounded the place.. I like the Turkish style to enjoy the night life.. To go there it's behind Galatasaray School in istiklal Street..

Taksim itself is a nice place to hang around and have some drinks. However, Fransis sokak (the French street), also known as the Jezair street (Jezair sokagi) is a more compact place with a more oriental vibe. Many cafe's around have live music unlike the Taksim bars/cafe's. The cafes on both sides of the staircase (street) going down a steep... More

Several years ago there was a street in Çukurcuma, a once lovely neighborhood that had seen better days. Some wealthy people looked at Cezayir Sokağı, with its pleasing curve and overhanging alcoves, and said, "Oh, this is much too nice to let poor people live here, let's make ourselves a little playground," so they got rid of those pesky poor... Just off Beyoglu, its a hidden area. Once you get there it's a contrast with Beyoglu but has a pleasant atmosphere. Pricey compared to cafes and bars in Beyoglu. Worth a try.
