Besiktas is a neighbourhood which is not always frequented by tourists unless they are going to Dolmabahce Palace. There are fish restaurants, cafes and even a market in the area. It also has a popular football club in the vicinity.

According to a story, a cleric from Saint Menas Church where Besiktas now is returned from a pilgrimage to Jerusalem with a cradle-shaped stone used in the baptism of Jesus and placed it in the church. Located near the sea, it is a very bustling area! Modern part of Istanbul, where you can catch a ferry to Asian side of... More

A highly exploited district of İstanbul, located near the sea, a bölüme transfer point for the residents, where you can feel the rythm of the City in person. This is öne of the older sites of the City, with a small but crowdy bazaar inside, but where you can still have a small break while wandering around the City.

Besiktas is one of the most modern areas of Istanbul. There are lots of eating places, a few museums, hotels, bars etc and most of all the Taksim Square is very near. Modes of transportation are easily available and the bus service is very much recommended.

Besiktas is anoter corner of typical Istanbul to be visited. Most ferries from the Asian side come here and there is a very large area where the vibe is. If you go to the Çarşı section you will come accross many restaurants. This place is different than the Eminönü or Karaköy section of the city. More locals visit this area... More

Besiktas is one of the well-known more modern areas in Istanbul. Lots of museums, hotels, restaurants and also more contact with local people. They have the best soccer team - the soccer stadium is located in this area. Lovely hotels - I had a drink at the wonderful Kapinsky Palace. Taksim Square is in the vicinity Lots of wonderful Restaurants... More

The ferry stops here, and thus becomes a jumping off point to Ortakoy. When going there, it is better to walk at almost any time of the day. The two times we went, we passed 3 of "our" buses when walking, getting there much faster than any of them did...

From the busy ferry terminal the Barbaros Bulivari climbs up to the suburb of Beşiktaş, which is home to one of the citys football teams, the "Black Eagles", "Kara Kartal" and the wealthy middle classes. The mundane Sinan Paşa Camii, built by the great man himself, is located in this district. In 2002 thirty four İznik tiles were stolen from... More

Staying in Besiktas

Neighborhood Profile
In Besiktas, skyscrapers compete with palaces for space in an upscale vista replete with hilly green parkland filling in the margins. Step into this rather wealthy neighborhood and discover a rich mix of opportunities to shop, dine, and be entertained. For folks in search of urban buzz, not to mention a constant reminder of just how important Istanbul’s waterways are to its rich history, there's the frenetic Besiktas ferry terminal or the city’s most vibrant fish market to explore. For a timeout of metropolitan proportions, head to the bucolic Yildiz Park or the chic Bosphorus-side fishing village of Ortakoy. Attractions such as the grandiose Dolmabahce Palace and a bevy of other stately residences await admiration. To be sure, this large and not overly touristy swath of Istanbul yields plenty of pleasure for all.
