Istanbul is a very interesting city to visit and there is a lot to discover. Overall the people are very nice. However, one has to be careful for all kind of people who try to offer you their services. Not all of them have very good intentions. Enjoy!

Magical historic sites. Sights and sounds and a visitors' dream. We loved the nights walking the streets and markets and seeing all the mosques at night. The Hagia Sofia and Basilica Cistern were magical.

Loved seeing the influences from this very old city that live with us today. Eg: the tile patterns and how they were adopted by William Morris for his famous pattern designs in the19th Cent. Loved the architecture. the mosques, the food, the people. The age of things, the rich heritage,The custom of tea drinking was wonderful. Everyone genuinely wanted me... More

Blue Mosque was great and so was the Old Roman water reservoir. Old Bazaar was OK but targeted too much towards tourists and lacking any historical significance

The area where we stayed is in Europe - but still so 'non-European' which I thought was extremely interesting and amazing!

Very close together for a nice walking day are the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Roman Cistern, and the Topkapi Palace. Personally, I recommend 6 - 8 hours to really see everything. Be sure to check when these sites are open and closed as both Topkapi Palace and the Hagia Sophia are closed on Mondays and certain holiday days, Blue Mosque... More

The cruise ships have found Istanbul. Expect very long lines at all the sites ( Topkapi, Blue Mosque, St. Sophia)

Former oriental city which now became totally westernised and lost almost all its oriental atmosphere. Only splendid Haghia Sophia is well worth a visit.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
