Neighborhood: Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighborhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.

If you are looking to immerse yourself into the culture of Turkey 🇹🇷, I recommend adding a visit to the hammam. The historical building is awesome and the traditional hamam was an amazing experience. Highly recommend! There were 1 other couple in the hamam at the same time and they were just as quiet as we were taking in our surroundings and relaxing in the sauna/hot room. Just a heads up the masseurs are men and very professional, please don't let this deter you! Please note you cannot bring cameras or phones into the hamam!

Hamam treatment was ok, but didn't knock me off my stool now. Nice. Know it better in Turkey, too. At the hot stone in advance everyone (without previous showering) lies without that being cleaned. You're almost in the sweat of your predecessor. However, you only check this when you see that the next guests lie down directly on the same seat without being cleaned in between.

My opinion is the same before and after I first entered a hammam. All the opinions you read take you if or if you want to try a Turkish bath because it seems that if you don’t, you haven’t visited Istanbul. I wouldn’t pay €150 two people again to get 40 degrees heat for half an hour and then have Marseille soap poured over your body. Even if I get a bath of these, I'm not coming back, but I understand it's an opinion. very particular and that we are each a world.. The staff is very nice and of course the site is beautiful with an important story. For this I might be interested but what is the Turkish bath itself I did not like.

We chose this Hammam because it is the only one where you can enter as a couple (man/woman) and share together an experience of absolute relaxation. It is not necessary to bring adequate clothing because it is provided (shorts for men and shorts and bra in pure cotton for women with typical wooden slippers). You undress in a cabin where you will leave everything and bring the key on your wrist. After the heat bath you are washed and will be peeled with the black glove, then a massage with soap (wonderful feeling) and rinse. The next step is to be wrapped with the typical cotton towels and relax in a small room drinking the drinks offered. Maximum cleanliness, kindness and professionalism. Recommended lie down mo!

Given that we chose this structure because it is the only one that allows entry as a couple and therefore avoids a waste of time to wait for the partner. The staff is made up of only men so women are also treated by people of the other saying. That said, the hammam is beautiful and antique and above all clean. The entrance is wooden and divided on two levels, on the second floor there are changing rooms: small cabins in which to change and leave your clothes and belongings. The key remains with you, tied to your wrist. Fabric garments are provided: bra and shorts to women, shorts to men, wooden slippers. Once changed you enter the hot room that allows the body to sweat and eliminate toxins, then the masseurs invite the couple to sit on marble tables for the ritual of scrubbing, soaping, foam massage and shampooing. For those travelling to Istanbul it is a recommended experience. The staff is very courteous and speak English. Bellissimo!

A unique experience: wrapped in the peace of the historic walls of this hamam, you live an unforgettable experience with friendly, clean and English-speaking staff. The historical details in the structure are spectacular: octagonal domes with small pentagonal and star-shaped windows, marble floors. The scrub and massage bring back the tired muscles of the many kilometers traveled around Istanbul.
Değerli Misafirimiz, Hamamımız hakkındaki nazik sözleriniz için çok teşekkür ederiz. Hamamız da harika bir deneyim yaşadığınız için çok mutluyuz. Excellent Hammam, everything is done to make you feel comfortable. Kindness of staff, very clean, beautiful location. All praise for this place that deserves discovery. The benevolence of the masseurs is to be emphasized as well as the rest of the staff. Vigorous but pleasant massages. At the end the skin is soft as well as the hair. Small drink offered not to be neglected. I recommend this place with my eyes closed.

One person comes in and after the bath someone else comes out. Extraordinary experience, very professional, the site has a mystical atmosphere. You have to make an appointment. The cost: 75€ It's very worth it. Masseurs are amazing.

Hammam experience is a must do when in Turkey - we chose this one in Istanbul after visiting many as the best for cost/quality. It is still not modernised (and that is a good thing!) so you really get to feel like going back in time in a simple and very authentic Turkish bath. The operators are all men, and they have a strong grip for massages - if you prefer a softer touch be sure to ask in advance!

We really like this experience! Historic place (former hammam of the sultan) kept in its authentic state and traditional procedure justify, in our view, a fairly high price. This is one of the few places that accept couples which is a great advantage if you come with your half and want to enjoy the experience together. It's still very different from a steam room. Here, the goal is to get a new look thanks to one of the professional washers / massagers. The warm marble on which you lie during the first part of the procedure helps to relax while removing toxins and impurities from the skin. Washers/masseurs intervene in a second stage. It all ends with a rest session, so you can choose a drink. For this last step, we would have preferred to be in the main hall on the sofas rather than in the small room at the entrance of the steam room. It would also be wise to set up an additional service in the form of a café offering drinks, sweets and perhaps even chichas for those who want to enjoy the moment by staying a little longer in this unique place.

The place is very beautiful, but everything is too rushed, it absolutely does not last 90 minutes as indicated, the treatment time is a maximum of one hour. The rest of the time is spent in a small relaxation area. The price of 65 euros each is absolutely not justified. Furthermore, after having paid that amount, I absolutely do not expect to be kicked out with my hair still wet, not even time to dry it because they had to close, and only 5 minutes had passed from 90 (time spent in the wellness area). If you pay that amount, I expect to at least be able to stay and dry myself! Furthermore, the massage is not relaxing, too vigorous, in some moments it even hurt. Unfortunately it is the only structure that allows a couple's experience.

Before I continue let me tell you… for us this was far from a relaxing experience BUT well worth it if nothing else for the stories you can tell.

The building itself is lovely and luxurious. The staff friendly and professional.

Upon entering you are taken to an elegant changing room where you and your partner will change into the hamam’s shirts and bikini. You are given wooden shoes which while fun could easily trip you as they have a funny shape.

Once ready proceed to the toilet if you need because after that it’s going to be an odd 90 minutes.

You are taken into a marble room. Temperature there is a very hot 40c with high humidity. Relax on the center marble piece. After a few minutes it might get too hot so use cold water from the taps to cool yourself down.

After about 45 minutes you will be guided by the male staff to what I can only call a scrub room. You will have hot water poured over your head followed by cold water over and over again. He will scrub you down and slap you with a cloth.

The same is repeated while you lie down on your stomach then on your back. First hot water then cold water. I didn’t enjoy it being poured over my head. Felt like water boarding to me so I told the guy to stop throwing on my head.

Once you are done they show you to a cooling down room and wrap you up in white cotton towels. You get a drink…. That’s it. That’s your experience. There is no massage. There is nothing soft or romantic here. Forget anything even remotely sensual of course. But at the end of the day it’s a great experience and one I would recommend anyone to do at least once if nothing else for the smile of amusement it will put on your face.

I booked this for me and my husband and it was just brilliant. The building is stunning and the atmosphere is so relaxing. We were lucky as we were the first people in and had the whole place to ourselves for the first 30 minutes. The hamam experience was just amazing from start to finish. We loved every minute of it and felt like we were walking on air when we left. The online booking process was very easy, you pay on arrival and it's worth every penny. The masseurs keep asking how you are feeling which was nice and reassuring as it gets incredibly hot. If you are visiting Istanbul, you must put this on your 'things to do' list.

A very expensive place with unacceptable service.
The best thing about this hammam was the (probably underpaid) masseurs - professional, friendly & kind. And a beautiful space.
But the service was bad, the shoes impossible to wear without the risk of breaking one’s neck, and the old man at the entrance just rude, hassling & reprimanding his clients. We were a family of 5, didn’t expect to be treated like dirt for the €325 we paid.

Great unique experience for its peaceful and relaxing sensation. Amazing building.
Negative: they accept only cash. Nearby ATMs weren't working. The shoes they give are dangerous.
Note: the massage is very soft and gentle.

Overall a great experience.

The physical space is evocatively beautiful. poetic. And after that things go downhill. The staff feel like they're going through the motions, no joy or heart in anything.

Except for one other couple, the place was empty. some people like having it all to themselves. Not for me. There is a historic social / community aspect to hamams / baths in general. This one had none of that.

The wooden shoes they give you are tricky to wear. One size for all, and your feet slip everywhere in them. Given you're walking on wet marble, it's easy to be concerned about safety.

The actual hamam was impressive in the marble, architecture, and history. I appreciated the heat. Not all do.

We had two attendants, one each. Mine was unfriendly, aggressive, bordering on hostile. The only warm and fuzzies here was the soap bath.

For the price, I suspect there are better hamams to check out.

The hamam is located in a very important building, with historical experience. You need to bring nothing, everything is provided for you, even bottles of water! Personal is very professional and someone is taking care of you at all times. Massages are unique and bath is very relaxing, done by professionals and there is no problem with only male masseuses. We really enjoyed it and will definitely come back when we are in Istanbul again!

I recommend this place very highly!
my wife and I booked this in advance by emailing the Hamam directly.
on arrival we were greeted outside and brought in. Signed some Covid paperwork and were shown to a room which was to be our locked room where we left out belongings. we were given a towel for men, and shorts bikini top and towel for women.
We were then given a bottle of cold water each and shown to the Hot room where we laid on the marble surfaces - very relaxing!

We were then scrubbed washed and massaged by the masseurs. This was amazing.

At one point I felt faint due to the heat so had to step out for a bit. This is where my height recommendation come from - My masseur was very helpful here. He helped me out of the hot room, laid me down, raised my legs, gave me water and menthol sweets and cooled me down before taking me back and continuing the massage. I can not thank him enough for this!

Following this, we got dried off and sat and had drinks before changing going and leaving.

This experience felt very authentic, the hamam was very relaxing and atmospheric in the traditional style building, the the domed ceilings etc. This is a must do for anyone coming to Istanbul!

Thank you so much to the staff!

Relaxing experience at a historical Turkish bath.
Staff was attentive and thorough in their tasks.
Soap and shampoo used were fragrant.
Would highly advise making reservations as early as possible as they have limited slots.
In fact, my girlfriend is keen to return to Istanbul just to re-experience a Turkish bath here.
This is one Istanbul experience you should definitely not miss out!
