With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.

Wonderful place, I recommend you bring a hair scarf (in the case of women), since you will enter a temple and it is mandatory to have your hair covered, otherwise they will give you one at the entrance and you will have to return it at the exit. Inside there are brochures in different languages explaining the Muslim religion and its history. Remember to leave your shoes outside before entering.

Sultanahmet meydany means Sultanahmet square, it´s the same. Located between Ayasofia museum and Blue mosque this square is very good to rest after visit both places. there are many benches and people also sit and lay down in the grass to eat their picnics. Beautiful fountain in the middle with the two main attractions Ayasofia and Blue mosque facing each other.

This is Sultan Ahmet Square. It is large and sprawling and is a wonderful place. Safe day and night as it is always under the watchful eye of many Tourist Police and has controlled entry points - not noticeable points, just areas where people are guided by fences to enter and exit. Many vendors (but not too many) throughout offer food and drinks and some trinkets and there is plenty of seating where you can pause for a bit to relax in sun or shade. You'll see many families with young children or pushing strollers around, too. One end is especially popular in the evenings and early night to watch the colored light show from the fountain. If you go to any of the major tourist sites in this general area, you can't help but hit part of the park - when you do, take some time to explore all of it. It also opens on one side to the T1 Tram Line and bus stops so it's easy to get to and easy to get anywhere else from.
SultanAhmet Meydani is today's remains of the Hippodrome dating back to Constantine's building of a new Roman capital here and includes artifacts brought here to help make this a fitting new capital. From a Roman chariot track of 2000 years ago to a great modern concentration of historic sites, you'll see ancient obelisks and be at the entrances to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace and much more. On one side of the square is The Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum and a great place to buy your Istanbul Museum Pass without a crowd, too.

Sultanahmet Meydanı is the touristic centre of the old city of Istanbul. With its lawn, the tulips in bloom, and the fountain in the middle it attracted a lot of visitors in April. The mass of tourists, among whom there are many groups, were an obstacle in itself.
When you are there, have a close look at the buildings of Hürrem Sultan Baths and visit the türbeler of the sultans in the immediate neighbourhood. (I am not referring to the türbeler on the grounds of Aya Sofia Museum.)

Sultanahmet Meydanı is the square between Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. There are fountains, trees and flower beds. People sit on benches and even on the lawn. They relax and watch the passers-by. The square is a touristic centre of Istanbul. Not rarely are there crowds of tourists. If the weather is fine, the locals go for a walk there. I enjoy doing the same. From here you can visit the above mentioned sights and many more, or you can go for a ride on the double-decker bus.

The square known as the Hippodrome in Roman times. The historical and touristic center of Istanbul, where Obelisks, Serpent Column, German Fountain, Mosques and Museums are located.

Sultanahmet Square is the heart of the neighborhood and, although it is not indicated as one of the main stops for a visit to the city, it is from here that you can reach all the most famous attractions that overlook it. It is undoubtedly the starting and "connection" point of every visit to the city.

Nowadays it places once racecourse. It still preserves some important monuments... the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column, the German Fountain and the Column of Constantine. Well lit in the evening.
