The area
Neighborhood: Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighborhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.

Kapalı Çarşı or the Grand Bazaar enter through one of the numerous gates and just go with the flow. Everything under one roof in the "covered market" Clothing, souvenirs, rugs, jewellery, bags, sweets and the list goes on. Haggle hard but be polite it's an experience to be had. Beautiful colours and a wonderful vibe. Even if you don't intend to buy anything I would recommend a stroll through the historic Bazaar.

This place is the classic and historical shopping experience of all time. Undercover shopping for blocks and blocks just full of incredible items from fur coats, to incredible fine gold jewelry to backgammon boards to fine arts & crafts and souvenirs to clothes, shoes and leather goods. Many places to stop and recharge your batteries with tea or coffee and delicious sweets to more substantial meals. There are plenty of places to withdraw cash and to change currency for low to no-fees too.
I came here thinking I would simply walk through and maybe sit down for a coffee. I ended up buying a whole bunch of items from brass Turkish coffee sets to t-shirts and ceramics. Oh yes, I had the coffee and Baklava as well! Remember to bargain!
You seriously can not miss this historical shopping experience. The world’s first mega mart!

Dating back to 1453, this magical and colorful Covered Bazaar is one place that definitely should not be missed in Istanbul. It is a beautiful and magical place where you can find everything from carpets to jewelry, from Turkish delight to leather goods and traditional Turkish objects.
It is difficult to go out without buying something nice. There are nice restaurants and the famous Orient ( Sark) Cafe. It is easy to get lost in the numerous alleys but don’t be afraid, you’ll get out.

A bazaar is always interesting. I didn’t find products there cheap. It was full of jewlleries and gold in which we weren’t interested. There are many shops with the same things and to bargain in any shop was tiring. For great deals and variaty of products visit all the small shops around the closed market and else where if your aim is to buy something, otherwise great place (but noisy like the rest of the city) for a walk!
