A nice stroll

Very nice for a stroll, especially over to the eternal flame and the weeping mother. Trees were beautiful in fall.

Independence Square is a huge complex of gardens and statues/memorials. On a nice clear day it is a lovely place for a walk and relaxation with wonderful sights to see. Language is a barrier. It is recommended to take a guide or someone who can explain and interpret. Full points to the maintenance staff that keeps this location so green,... More

Mustakillik or Independence Square was formally known as Lenin square. It is huge and I mean really huge, it is beautifully kept and maintained and sports many stunning fountains. A must see in the now modern part of Tashkent, especially if the weather is nice.

Must visit place in Tashkent . After the proclamation of Uzbekistan Independence in September 1991, "Lenin Square" was renamed in 1992 as "Mustaqillik Maydoni", which translates to "Independence Square" in English. You can visit this place in the night also. Beautiful gardens, fountains, pathways.

They build monuments and squares rather large. They are always clean and safe to walk around. A quite pleasant way to spend a few hours, resting or just looking at the different fountains.

This square has quite a history. It was first named Cathedral Square in honor of the Orthodox cathedral built here by Konstantin Kaufman, the first Russian Governor-General of Turkestan. In 1917 it was renamed Red Square and was renamed Lenin Square in 1966. In 1991 it was renamed Independence Square after Uzbekistan broke away from the Soviet Union.

This is a good place to see the history of Uzbekistan. As this is a young country this squire has a lot of importance for the common people. The place is very clean and one can go for a walk in that area

Well worth a visit for some photos and a walk around as the fountains and sculptures are very impressive.
