In September and October 2023 my wife and I traveled for three weeks in Uzbekistan. All the detailed plans and all the arrangements (accommodation, transport, guides, etc.) were made by PeopleTravel. We were delighted with our trip and we were very pleased with – indeed, impressed by -- the services of PeopleTravel.

My wife and I travel often and widely, and we have fairly clear ideas as to what we like and what we do not like. Long in advance we contacted PeopleTravel by email, and we sketched our interests (for instance, architecture and art, both old and new) and our preferences (for example, we prefer small hotels on the "boutique" side). We noted that we like to walk, that we like to visit museums and that we like to take our time and try to see what places are like. That led to an exchange of email messages and to a final detailed proposal (and contract) to which we agreed.

From the evening we landed at Tashkent International Airport to the morning three weeks later when we left Uzbekistan we were very pleased with the plans and arrangements made by PeopleTravel for our visit to Uzbekistan. We felt then, and we feel now, that those plans and arrangements corresponded very well to our interests and preferences. Moreover, not only did the initial program and arrangements reflect our preferences very satisfactorily, but minor amendments were possible and PeopleTravel remained supportive throughout our trip. For instance, after we purchased Uzbekistan SIM cards for our phones, PeopleTravel ensured that guides had our Uzbeki phone numbers and could contact us easily.

We were especially pleased with the services of the guides whom PeopleTravel had selected. Not only did the guides help us visit the sites efficiently and tell us about the sites but they also provided a great deal of important background information that put things into perspective. Moreover, they answered thoughtfully our numerous questions about contemporary life in Uzbekistan; topics ranged from cuisine to education and from migration to marriage, children and the status of women. All our guides spoke very clearly and they had excellent knowledge of both formal and colloquial English.

The hotels selected by PeopleTravel were just right for us: in all cases they were well located and near restaurants; in addition they were quiet and friendly, and they were clean and properly equipped. Also significant is that all the hotels provided attractive, generous breakfast buffets with a very wide range of foodstuffs -- from eggs, cereal and fresh fruit to salads, pastry and cooked vegetables.

With respect to transport my wife is keen to point out that drivers were invariably punctual and courteous, and the vehicles were clean and nice-smelling. At train stations and at the airport drivers held up clearly printed signs with our names. Traveling by train in Uzbekistan is delightful. Not only are the trains punctual but staff are polite and helpful. For our two long train trips (17 hours and 11 hours), necessarily in old trains, PeopleTravel managed to arrange for us to have private compartments, and that made these trips far relaxing and comfortable as well as interesting.

Because we did not ask other agencies to design and offer similar trips, we cannot say authoritatively that the price charged by PeopleTravel was relatively low or relatively high. However, we can certainly affirm that we never had any reason to think that the price charged by PeopleTravel for our 21 day trip was particularly high or was inflated in any respect.

On the basis of our own experience we recommend that individuals and groups that have in mind traveling in Uzbekistan contact PeopleTravel.

We spent a whole week in Uzbekistan with People travel and I have to say it's been a deep experience though the culture and the history of the country. Worth mentioning the guides along the journey, especially in Bukhara, very competent and professional.

People-travel.uz organized a 17-day-tour of Uzbekistan, from Aral Sea to Termez and Ferghana, including all major sites in between (Nukus, Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand and Tashkent). The itinerary was chosen by myself, while the guide, car with driver and hotels were organized by people-travel. It turned out that the guide was really special (knowledgeable, kind and passionate about his country), hotels were very good and central located, as requested, while the various drivers were all kind and careful on driving. Without hesitations, my wife and I would suggest people-travel to anyone who plans to visit Uzbekistan.

I booked a Stihia package tour via Peopletravel company. It included accommodation at a yurt, transfer Nukus-Muynak-Nukus and the entrance ticket to the festival. Additionally, I booked a jeep trip to the Aral Sea from this agency.
The transfer from Nukus to Muynak came right on schedule, it was a large comfortable bus for 50 people. After 3-hour trip we arrived to the festival. Our yurt was designed for 4 people. It was comfortable and spacious inside, we slept on thick orthopedic mattresses. Unfortunately, during the festival, a very cold weather occurred, which is very unusual for this region in May, so it was very cold at night and the thin blanket provided was not enough, and there were no spare blankets in the camp. Luckily I got an idea to ask for help our jeep driver who lives nearby. I asked him to lend me a warm blanket for 2 nights for a small surcharge. The driver agreed and it really helped me out!
Living in a yurt was much more comfortable than tents. We were well protected from the rain. There were even electrical sockets in the yurt, and the entrance door could be locked with a key! In the review above, I read that it is noisy to stay in the yurts. Well, of course, they are right in the heart of the festival, and the music is heard until 3 am! Those who wanted to sleep in silence booked accommodation in apartments outside the camp, but this is at least 10-15 minutes on foot.
It was very convenient for me to live inside the festival area, because the weather was constantly changing, and I could run to the yurt at any time for a raincoat, sweater, sunblock, etc. As for the bathroom facilities, there was a special van on the territory of the festival, which had enough toilets and showers inside (only cold water!).
As for the jeep tour to the Aral Sea, we were not lucky with the weather. It rained heavily during the festival and many jeeps even got stuck in the wet sand. Fortunately, our driver was very experienced and heroically drove the entire route, despite the fact that it took him not even 3, but 4.5 hours one way. We reached the sea, stood in front of it for 5 minutes in the pouring rain with thunder and lightning, and drove back. It is a pity that the weather did not allow us to swim in the sea, but I was happy anyway.
In regards to food during the festival, staying in a yurt included breakfast at the “Mayak” cafe right next to the yurts - it was very convenient!
Muynak-Nukus transfer after the festival was also excellent.
Thank you for organizing this tour for me - it was really a lifetime experience!

Oh boy, where do I start…probably from the beginning, when my friends and I (a diplomat, a NGO worker, a New York Times journalist and a teacher in the most prestigious high schools system of Uzbekistan and a few more people involved in the country’s development) used this agency to organise a trip to the STIHIA festival in Muynak, Kakakalpakhstan. This agency was suggested by the festival organisers. Anyway, from the beginning as I said, when mrs. Karina lied to us about the availability of guest houses in the city and sold us 3 nights at the festival’s yurt camp for 800$, promising the “luxurious experience” of a giant yurt with AC and mattresses and that our money was worth the while. Well, LIES! Yurt was incomplete, full of holes and leaks, missing those key factors of “luxury”, and not even big enough. But probably the worst part of Karina’s lying was that hostels in Muynak still had rooms, so she purposefully sold us an extreme overpriced allocation (again 800$ for a mediocrely made yurt facing the stage of a techno rave party). I’ve been here long enough to notice a pattern of lying when doing business with foreigners, no matter if you’re a tourist or a diplomat or your work impacts the economic development of the country. They just lie.
Well, as I said, that’s just the beginning. Next incredible absurdity came with organising a guided tour of the region before and after the festival. Coming in a package of more than 500$ worth of driver and guide, we ended up sitting silent waiting for this very guide to make us love and understand better the territory. And yet, all we got was some bigot 20 years old that during the whole time was upset (or maybe jealous?) with us for going to the festival, to which, let’s be precise, he participated as well. Aydos, that’s his name, never really introduced himself, never asked us anything about ourselves (and that’s how he had no idea who he was touring with) and most important, he never really told us anything about the territory. All he did was grumping about how tourists care only about fun and alcohol. How can he do this job? Why on earth is he a guide? On the last day he showed up with his “cousin” and demanded that he could join us on the van for the trip back home, and about a few hours into our trip back to Nukus, he changed his mind and refused to be our guide, adding that we had behaved like partying all the time (hopefully while reading you didn’t forget we specifically went to a festival) and that he was disappointed with us. DUDE. WHAT. THE. HELL.
Ps.: this review is what it is but I wish to mention how Amir, the van driver, was the sweetest, most caring person of the whole experience. Available, laid back, approachable, who also took the part of the guide when “conservative kid” ditched us. Many thanks to this man, we loved him.

Dear Alessio With deep regret, we have read about your unsatisfied accommodation experience at Stihia festival. We would like to express our deepest apologies. Our company was recommended to you, as we are one of the organizers of the Stihia festival. Let’s study your case in details. 1. First of all, Mrs. Karina never lied about availability of the guesthouses, as to the moment you made your booking all guesthouses were sold out including (Timur house). Secondly, the reservation for the group stay (including you) in yurts was done not by you but by another person. If you found any guesthouse on your own, it didn’t mean that we had lied, it meant that we didn’t have any information about them to offer them to you. This is a big difference. 2. We have never promised luxuries yurt accommodation, nor A/C in the yurts. The booked yurt was designed for 10 people and the person who booked it asked us to accommodate the 11th person, which made the space even small. Also, the full information about the yurts’ facilities and location was provided by Mrs. Karina, no A/C was mentioned. We can prove all these with screenshots of our correspondence with person who made the reservation. Please note, that the person who made the reservation had whole information about yurts facilities, also all facilities of the yurts were written on our company’s and Stihia webpages. Please don’t blame us in promises which we have never given and which are proved by our correspondence and refer to the person who made the reservation and has the full information. 3. After a strong sandy wind and shower, we had leaking problems in some yurts, which were fixed immediately. Our company representative did it with rescue team and festival volunteers, after that we had asked tourists if their yurts were still leaking and we received negative answer. You were at that place and witnessed how strong was the sand storm and what damage it made to some yurts. It was a force major, which did not depend on us. However, we would like to apologies for a force of nature, which caused you the inconveniences. 4. Regarding your organized trip! You have never booked any transport nor guide services through our company before or after Stihia festival and it’s extremely incorrect from your side to defame us on the things which aren’t related to us. Peopletravel is 15 years on a travel market, we are too qualified to make such a minor mistake as you have mentioned above. We don’t promise thing which do not match the reality, we don’t run after the profit in order to ruin our reputation. For you to know, Stihia is fully non profitable festival, our aim is sustainable development of Aral region, we bringing the business for locals, not for us to earn. Again, we are very sorry about your bad experience at Stihia festival, meanwhile, it’s unfair to blacken us.

Simply put: Farrukh and PeopleTravel are awesome! Farrukh organized an amazing 9-day Silk Road tour that took us to Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva. It was extremely easy to arrange the trip - Farrukh was super responsive and made arrangements based on our desires and needs. It was an excellent itinerary that several of our friends are no copying. The guides, drivers, hotels, transportation, and activities that Farrukh arranged for us were simply excellent. We loved not worrying about anything during the entire trip - picked up at each location by excellent drivers and guides that spoke good English and were passionate about their cities, reservations at lovely hotels, train and plane tickets all take care of, and so much more. They even arranged COVID testing for us at the hotel the day of our departure! I cannot recommend PeopleTravel enough.

At a short notice, Farukh organised a trip for us (2pax) for Termez (ex-Tashkent). He is very amenable and we could find ways to make the trip friendly to our budget. He created a very interesting, yet a practical itinerary for us. Despite -4 degrees temperature, we could see a lot without rushing and yet rest up. All the logistics were very well organized (pick and drop, car, hotel, food, etc). His choice of tour guide was fantastic. The lady was very knowledgeable, charismatic and spoke impeccable English.

It is also very impressive to observe how Farukh is interested to know the feedback after the trip ended.

I highly recommend "People Travel".

We wish to see you again in our trips to other parts of Uzbekistan and Central Asian countries. Kind regards, Farrukh
