    Old Tashkent - Must See
This is one of the must-visit historical sites in Tashkent. In the square, you first see the Tillya Sheikh Mosque. This is a relatively new mosque. The interiors of the mosque are beautiful. Once you have visited the mosque, walk out and behind and you reach the huge Hazrati Imam Square. We went there in the evening and the entire square was filled with children flying kites which was a very pretty sight. On the far end of the square is the Barak Khan Madrasah which is worth a quick look. Also in the square is Moyie Mubarek Library Museum which has the world's oldest Quran. There is a hefty fee of UZS 10,000 to visit the library.

    Summer Daytime Visit
This was our visit sightseeing stop on our tour of Uzbekistan. We came in the mid-afternoon on a hot summer day and found the place relatively empty. We spent the most time seeing the historic copy of the Qur'an, and we viewed other buildings mostly from the outside. We purchased some unique Qur'an stands from a vendor inside the madrasa, though I'm pretty sure that we overpaid. The large Islamic Civilization Center will be worth visiting once it's open, provided visitors are allowed to enter.

    Beautiful Place
One of my favourite things to do in Tashkent, this beautiful complex is stunningly beautiful. Hazrati Imam Square is vast and the beautiful Mosque is just beguiling. If you have time you can pay a little centra to see the world's oldest Koran. I was here before in early 2023 in cold spring weather, this time it was blue July skies and searing heat. Lovely place this one, plenty to see as you stroll around including the striking minarets.

Somehow all the individual buildings of this complex are listed separately on Trip Advisor. Visit the grounds, the museum that contains many Korans including the oldest and most complete one in existence. Visit the craft center. I was told there are a few crafts there you won’t see outside of Tashkent. There are several artisans drawing, woodworking etc., as you walk around.

Probably my favorite place in Tashkent. Great mix of architecture, history, and regular tourism. First, there are a lot of lovely buildings to explore, including a quite and pleasant mosque. First time I was not asked to wear a scarf.
Then there is a small museum which has one of the oldest Qurans, as well as a few other exhibits. This is a place of worship, so you need to wear one of the robes at the entrance as a woman and act respectfully. No photos can be taken of the book. There is a fee to enter.
Also, plenty of souvenir stalls, got some nice earrings.

The religious centre of Tashkent where construction began in the XVI century. Includes the Tilla Shiek Mosque, Braakhan Madrasah, and Kafal Shashi Mausoleum. Be sure to see the 1300-year-old Koran.

This was our first introduction to Taskent and the buildings were really nice in the morning light.

The museum containing the Korans was interesting.

The small shops inside one of the other structures were fine but a bit too commercial and almost out of place.

Hazrati Imam or Khast Imom complex- has a mosque, madrasa, library and an upcoming centre for Islamic studies. Moyie mubarek library of displays the oldest Quran. Ensemble Hazrati Imam is the religious heart of old Tashkent, you reach inside the complex, meandering through the old town. Barak-Khan Madrasah has an admirable architecture.

This complex of madrassas and mosques is a real jewel. The beautiful blue and green tile work on the walls and minarets of the buildings. The collection of ancient versions of the holy Quran is breathtaking.

We wandered the madrasa but though a lot of crafts more of the same and better prices elsewhere in Uzbekistan. However, the museum housing ancient and old documents and korans were particularly fascinating to us. Beautiful scripts and the different Arabic writing styles had real historic interest.

This wonderful complex has the Madrasah of Barak-Khan, Tilla Sheikj mosque, Mausoleum of St Abu Bakr Kaffal Shashi, the Islamic Institual and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims in Central Asia. The library holds one of the most important oriental scripts, the Quran of Caliph Uthman-Ottoman, the primary source of the Islam holy book written in the 7th Century.
