We just finished a ten day trip around the island with Shantha. This was our third trip organized with Ceylon Escapes and the experience was as smooth as the previous two. Shantha is not only a skilled and careful and safe driver, he is also an accomplished guide with a deep knowledge of Sri Lanka's history and natural environment. Most importantly he is a very decent human being and it was a pleasure to spend these days in his company. You won't go wrong with this company.

My husband and I engaged the services of Ceylon Escapes for our planned 28-night tour of Sri Lanka, arriving Colombo early March 2020. The pre arrival communication with Ceylon Escapes booking service was professional, informative and timely. The quotation provided was detailed and competitive and offered travel alternatives and good local advice. Our driver Sanje was an exceptionally brilliant driver who made us feel safe and secure throughout our time with him. There is no way that tourists should be allowed to hire cars/drive on local roads! Sanjes skills as a local tourist guide, hospitality professional and driver with over 15+ years experience provided us enormous peace of mind. Regretfully our time in Sri Lanka was cut short due to Covid-19, however Ceylon Escapes communication with us throughout this difficult time was always informative, responsive and professional. Highly recommend using this company.

Myself and my wife visited Sri Lanka for 13 days in March. It was an amazing trip partly down to our driver; Ajith Perera. He made us feel comfortable and safe. The locals are friendly but being in a different country you have some reservations about safety but with Ajith you feel as if you have a friend. He accompanied us to all our destinations but at the same time gave us room to enjoy Sri Lanka ourselves. Ajith also took the headache of time management as he knew when to depart for excursions. We didn’t have to worry that we had to organise anything as Ajith was at hand to deal with excursions and food ( Sri Lanka food is amazing). We were very fortunate as we travelled during a time when the Coronavirus epidemic was on the rise globally. We were very fortunate to do all the activities and visit all the areas we wanted before the country went into lockdown. Even during these troubled times Ajith made us feel positive. Ajith made sure our journey were never dull as drives from area to area can take hours but Ajith balanced both being talkative and giving us down time to just relax. So I would highly recommend using Ceylon escapes with Ajith as your driver when travelling to Sri Lanka.

In brief, Ceylon Escapes are an exceptional company and I am very happy to recommend their service. My husband and I planned our own itinerary for a honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka and contacted Ceylon Escapes to provide us with a private driver. The communication from Rebecca was excellent and she was able to accommodate our plans as well as help us arrange train tickets for part of the journey. Our driver was Wijaya and we cannot praise him enough. He was a safe driver, punctual, and made better on most of our predicted transit times. He was highly flexible and made some really useful suggestions for restaurants and other attractions. Beyond that he was a perfect companion during the long drives - he shared a lot about his country and culture, and did not mind my husband's endless questions! Most importantly Wijaya always looked after our well being. Unfortunately our trip was marred by the evolving coronavirus crisis. Wijaya kept us informed with the Sri Lankan government's actions, from closing the national parks and monuments, to closing the airport to international arrivals, so that we could re-work our itinerary and eventually reschedule our flights. We are grateful that he helped us make the right decision to return home early and got us safely to the airport. Wijaya is a committed and professional employee - and a very kind person. Thank you Wijaya for such a wonderful introduction to your beautiful country. We cannot wait to return.

I am very happy to recommend Ceylon Escapes as their service has been exceptional from start to finish. Ceylon Escapes will arrange your whole itinerary for you but I enjoy the task of putting together holiday itineraries myself, I don't really find that travel guide books are a good place to start for some reason so starting from a position of ignorance about my chosen destination I usually read up on TA and look at typical itineraries offered by the top holiday companies. This gives me a starting point but I also know from experience that the itineraries offered by these tour companies are far too hectic, regimented and rarely show the traveller the true country being visited. My next step is to contact some local tour companies with my own brief which, rather than telling them where I want to visit, just says what I like and don't like doing. The itinerary that Rebecca quickly came back with stood out from the rest as, rather than giving me a standard package, it was clear that she had actually read my brief and came up with a very interesting and varied itinerary. In truth I could easily have just accepted her itinerary and would have had an excellent holiday I'm quite certain, but where would the fun have been in doing that! Over the course of a month I questioned Rebecca on the places she was suggesting, the hotels she had chosen and the route and she always answered quickly and patiently, I put forward my ideas and received honest advice as to whether these were good ideas or not and together we came up with our final itinerary which I can now say was perfect for us. The first test was would our driver/guide actually materialise but sure enough Shantha was at Colombo airport to greet us and help me find the ATM and buy a local SIM for my phone. Shantha was always a mine of information whether it be the modern or ancient history of Sri Lanka, flora and fauna, politics plus food and culture so he was always informative and entertaining. Our tour was splendid, Shantha was very flexible and made suggestions along the way so we had a fascinating and dynamic holiday. Shantha was a perfect companion, he was there when we needed him but we had all the space we needed to enjoy the holiday on our own and most importantly he always looked after our well being. This was particularly pertinent at the end of our trip when the corona virus pandemic effected Sri Lanka, we were scheduled to go on to the Maldives but flights there stopped two days before we were due to go, the national parks, temples etc closed down, hotels and restaurants were closing by the day and public opinion was becoming distrustful of tourists. Shantha kept us informed of the changing situation, not to panic us but just to help us make the right decisions. We changed our flights and left Sri Lanka on one of the last flights out, Shantha made sure we got to the airport and amazingly waited outside until we were safely on the plane in case we needed help to remain in Sri Lanka. He did all of this in the knowledge that he would have to go into self isolation himself when he left us and his wife's business was also having difficulties because of the Covid 19 situation and because he was a tour guide. We absolutely could not fault Shantha's commitment and professionalism to us throughout our tour. I am sure you will have gathered by now I would whole heartedly recommend Ceylon Escapes and feel sure that if you put your trust in them you will not be disappointed.
