The Sri Lankan Navy has started a new boat service in the Diyawana Lake in the Japan Friendship road side. We were a family of four adults and two kids and we took this ride in March this year . Because the Service was started in February, very few people seemed to be aware of this attraction. In fact we were the only ones in the lake during the entire period of the two hour ride. We had gone riding around the Parliament building earlier but due to security reasons were never allowed close to the building but during the boat ride we could quite close for great photographs of the building. I think this is the best way to see the Sri Lankan Parliament building.the ride goes right round the building and more. Apart from the great view of the parliament building we could see scores of sea birds frolicking in the lake and we could even take photographs of gulls picking up reasonably large fish from the water. The Sri Lankan navy personnel were quite meticulous about equipping everyone with life jackets and demonstrating how to use them. They were very Polite and friendly while going about their duty I counted about four sailors manning the speed boat and escorting us around.The ride itself was quite enjoyable The charges are fixed on a per boat basis. I remember paying 2500 Sri Lankan Rupees. A total of sixteen seats were in the boat and so the cost will be the same for one to sixteen passengers.…
