It's a historical place in Colombo from the time of Portuguese!
The first Muslim school in Sri Lanka is adjoining with this grand mosque.
They're using that space for the underprivileged students to study purpose and to do homework since their houses are very small.

The history of the mosque dates back to pre Portuguese colonial era of 1500 BC. It has been patronized by Arab traders (Sea men) during ancient times. The old building has not withstood the time due to natural or human destruction. What is there now is the building erected during 1950’s. Therefore one would not see any uniqueness in the architecture common to any other large mosque of this nature.
