My adult sons, their partners and I spent 5 days cycling through central Sri Lanka early this year.
Our guide Manju was amazing. He was knowledgeable, fun, very attentive and at times altered the route to suit our needs.
We stayed in very comfortable accommodation in interesting places, we visited all the tourist sights along the way, saw loads of wildlife and experienced local food and hospitality beyond our wildest dreams.
Highly recommended.

My wife and I have just completed this tour with Sri Lanka Bicycle Trips and it was fantastic. Before we set off, we were worried about the state of the roads and the traffic but Thomas, our guide, who we understand was the designer of the tour, had somehow managed to find safe, well-paved roads that were practically traffic-free but which took us through beautiful countryside, fascinating villages and areas where we were able to encounter some of Sri Lanka's great wildlife, including loads of beautiful birds. Thomas couldn't have been more attentive and patient with us anticipating our every need and fulfilling our requests...no matter how difficult. We very much hope to do a longer trip with Sri Lanka Bicycle Trips in the future.

Thank you SBT for arranging and coordinating such a great 9 day cycle holiday of your beautiful country Sri Lanka - from the coast to the highlands. From our very first email (and there where many) SBT proved to be very prompt with communicating, flexible with planning and happy to offer further information regarding traveling in Sri Lanka once the tour concluded.
We felt we very spoilt and safe having ‘Uncle’ as our steadfast and reliable driver, especially on the roads that chaotic roads, Sakour as our ‘logistics man’ on the road and Rajah as the very informative and encouraging cycle guide sharing the love and knowledge of his country with us.
The diversity of the cycle tour was amazing which included cycling, hiking, a visit to a working Tea Plantation and topped off with a fantastic Safari experience. We could not fault the holiday at all and would highly recommend SBT for all your cycling/adventure travel needs.

We enjoyed the cycle trip a lot and everything was perfectly organized from airport pickup to drop off at the end. Well done! This is definitely the best way to discover this beautiful island if you are in a physical condition to do it. That said, the daily targets were absolutely manageable and there is always option B to jump on the bus should you not like cycling in the rain or feel tired.
The staff sent to accompany our tour has done a great job. Rajah is a very good guide despite his young age, always in a good mood and ready to motivate when the wind may be against you. Keep going Rajah!! He has done a fantastic job and we wish to come back another time to explore the east coast and north of the country. Adikira is a safe and patient driver and became our uncle too by the end of the tour. Both have always been very attentive and made sure we get our daily king coconut and banana :) They both also did their best to keep the bikes in shape at all times but it seems to us that they may require a general overhaul with regards to brakes or gears which goes beyond what could be done while being on tour.
Looking back on the trip itself: we followed the suggested 11 day itinerary with the only change of ending in Galle instead of Unawatuna Beach. The off day was spent in Kandy. Without knowing much about the island before all seemed fine to us and the only concern we had was the potentially crazy traffic which could be a hazard for a cyclist. But we must say that all traffic participants have been very considerate towards cyclist, even the crazy hunting buses! Don't be afraid of the traffic, rather watch the dogs. Out of the approx 300 street dogs we possibly passed, only 3 had not been in the best mood and one went after our guide. But also there you develop a strategy to master the situations. The landscape is very enjoyable and even strips along main roads (of which they really try to minimize!) offer some kind of fun- just make yourself part of it. Roads have been in pretty good conditions which was very surprising to us. You need to be prepared to cold nights in the mountain range at least in December when we went on the tour.
Having finished the tour we would have rather spent the off day or even an additional one in Ella to explore the place a bit, hike up Adams Peak or just hang out at the beautiful property that was selected for the night. Overall we would have loved to be on a 30 day tour and were very said that the days flew by so fast and it was time to say good bye. We’ll be back!!
The food was delicious all over the island and we were addicted to 3 times curry a day after only a few days! Even some places in more remote areas offered the most delicious food and we never faced any trouble at all which is essential if you want to be fit on the bike. Absolutely fantastic.

Sri Lanka Bicycle Trips organised us a great trip around the country to see many of the highlights. We were a group of 4 friends and the tour took us to many interesting and beautiful places. We generally cycled in the morning to arrive to a local restaurant for lunch and then had free time in the afternoon to relax or explore. The highlight was a safari in Udawalawe National Park where we were lucky to see many birds and animals, including elephants. Our guide, Rajah, was extremely helpful and willing to please and all of Thomas' staff went out of their way to ensure our trip was enjoyable and stress-free.

We recently completed the 11-day cycle tour starting in Negombo and finishing in Unawatuna Beach. From start to finish this company has been easy to communicate with, supportive and very flexible. We were able to alter some of the hotels we were recommended with no fuss. Little unsure as to how the tour was going to go, but at 08:25 on the first day, Rajah and Sadam (and then followed by “Uncle”) were outside ready to go with equipped air-Con minivan and bikes.
The local knowledge of both help make this trip really enjoyable, informative and exciting. Rajah is always on hand to take a pic, tell you about the local environment and history, or laugh and joke with. He’s not too bad on the bike neither haha! The trip does not need to be all cycling as well, as we were able to do some sight seeing in the various stops along the way - hiking, tea plantations and factory, safari, cooking class, train ride to Ella, and of course plenty of eating and drinking along the way. Getting to stop at the side of the road and chop the top off a coconut and start slurping away along with some soursop fruit was amazing, with these little touches making a big difference!
Doing this type of tour gives you the flexibility to tailor it to your needs, coupled with the local knowledge of the guide (Rajah) and support driver (Sadam and Uncle), while cycling through this amazing country gives you the opportunity to experience it on a whole different level.
Would highly recommend this tour and will be keen to explore the North and East of the country in the future. Well done to everyone associated to the company for making this a holiday of a lifetime, and extra special thanks to Rajah (brother) for being there every step of the way!

Our private cycle tour started from our hotel in Negombo. Rajah and Sharpoor met us keen and ready for some cycling. We brought our pedals and saddles and took charge of our bikes. Now they are not the best bikes in the world, but they were perfect for the conditions we faced. With Sharpoor following us in his small van and Rajah leading the way. most of the time - unless it started raining. ;) , we were having the tour of our life of the amazing and varied sea, country and mountain regions of Sri Lanka. Rajah and Sharpoor put up with our eagerness to get off the main roads and off the beaten track. They were able to massage our tour to give us a tailor-made experience of the country. Hotels were all comfortable, some were amazing. Although you will have to contend with traffic that is not western standards - you can eventually understand that every hoot of a tuc tuc or lorry were almost honks of hello - although they do like to take gaps that are hardly there. Shaoor heard we were keen on doing some local cooking lessons - and sorted it for us with his Aunt. An experience I will savour. A holiday of a lifetime with Rajah and Sharpoor - they almost feel like family.

We completed a 5 day cycling trip in the North of Sri Lanka. Everything went very well and Rajah and Uncle took amazing care of us throughout the journey! The only wish? That the trip was longer :)

I enjoyed a great 5 day bicycling experience in company of Rajah, my guide who also likes to bike, and "Uncle", the driver of the back-up vehicle.
Before the trip, I could customize my private trip based on the distance I would like to bike everyday, the time I would like to start every morning, my preferred diet and the price category for the accommodation. It resulted having ca. 80km per day, starting at 8 a.m. every morning, eating vegetarian food and staying at budget hotels with A/C rooms.
It was a great experience cycling with Rajah. He made the entire journey very easy and enjoyable knowing which roads to take, where to eat, where to get some nice snacks along the way, etc. His knowledge in local flora and fauna was also very valuable to me. We had the choice to encounter various types of trees, plants and animals along the lovely roads we biked.
Having a private trip, it was also very flexible. For instance, it was possible to stop to take pictures or to buy a small snack anytime I wanted. It was also possible to use the back up vehicle to protect us from heavy (short) rain episodes or to avoid biking on larger roads with heavier traffic. The back-up vehicle made the trip very enjoyable by permitting to riding the bike without having to carry any pieces of luggage (only a phone, sunscreen and a bit of money).
As a result, I got to discover a lot about Sri Lanka and enjoy Rajah´s company.
I look forward cycling other parts of the country on my next trip there.

I would like to know if it's also possible to do this with kids ( 4 years old, possible to sit on childseat and a 7 year old who needs small bike) Thanks!
