I recently booked a private, customized tour with Lion Royal. I found them online and saw the had one a local award for best tour company. I tend to be naturally wary of travel agents, but from the very beginning I was impressed with their excellent customer service and honest business practices. They were prompt with their replies, detail-oriented, precise and good communicators of very complex requests. Their prices were about the same if not better than the other travel companies I sent inquiries to and slightly cheaper than if I had made my own bookings with the added benefit of excellent service to do all the work for me. I gave Lion Royal the list of sights I wanted to see and they incorporated their recommendations into an excellent, well-thought out itinerary. The also take credit card up to a certain maximum which is a huge draw for me.
I was debating between this tour company and a larger, more well-known one named Aitken Spence but found Aitken Spence's customer service to be a mess - their itineraries were full of mistakes and they took a long time to reply which lead me to believe there might be hiccups during the tour if I had booked with them. I am so glad I took a chance and went with Lion Royal.
The driver Lion Royal allocated to us was excellent and extremely helpful who offered great recommendations, advice, and never forced us to go to any commission-based shops. The hotels they booked were lovely and proved to be the quality promised (sometimes other unethical travel agents will switch hotels up on you). They even surprised us with a couple lovely meals included with our tour that were not part of the planned package. I was most impressed when we wanted to make a last minute change to the itinerary in the middle of the tour that required a last minute change to a hotel, which they did for us for no extra charge.
I highly recommend Lion Royal to plan out your trip to Sri Lanka. They can do cheaper tours with three star hotels or nicer ones with four star hotels.

We took a gamble on this tour agency, not having dealt with them previously. It turned out to be a very happy experience. We arranged everything by emails with them, and they were always responsive to our requests.
In a couple of instances we would have been better off taking their advice regarding hotels, as the one selection we insisted on (Manor House, Kandy) turned out to be a serious disappointment!
I would have given a little more attention to getting a better quality car for us, and the darkly tinted windows meant that we had to keep them down all the time in order to see the magnificent countryside while on the long drives between stops.
They even made it possible for us to stay a night quite unexpectedly at the St. Andrews Hotel in Nuwara Eliya, without additional charge for the upgrade as they realized we were booked into a hotel of much lesser quality.
The overall quality of Lion Royal's service was excellent, and we can recommend them to anyone wanting a well-organized and very efficient tour of this magnificent paradise garden island.

We are glad to arrange our 14 days tour in Sri Lanka with Lion Royal. They are good value for your money.
We've been lucky with our driver Chaminda as he make everything so easy and professional.
You can arrange just the route and driver or you can also ask them for the hotels.
If you are willing a trip in Srilanka you may contact them!

We took a 3 week tour with personal Lion Royal driver, Nimal. He anticipated our every need and was responsive to all of our requests. Rashmi, with Lion Royal also went over and beyond to help us. We had to cancel our first planned trip suddenly due to a death in the family. We re-booked within a year and Rashmi was so sweet with so many personal touches to make our trip meaningful and delightful. We had friends that booked a driver independently and made their own arrangements, but we came in with the same budget with a lot less work on our part and a lot better quality of hotels. Lion Royal is fantastic! Tell them your focus and they will taylor to you.

My family & I had a wonderful vacation in Sri Lanka, the kids enjoyed every bit of it so we.
A big part of that credit goes to lion royal.
the drivers we had either Madura or later on Jude are two nice guys very polite and ready to help all the time, they gladely adapt to your itinerary or timing & driving always in a safe manner, this makes the long journeys more bearable.
The driver had an accident after leaving us and was replaced as well as the car in just a couple of hours.
Worth mentioning 13 years ago I used their services for a trip to Sri Lanka and after all that time I'm pleased that the service level is still improving and was satisfied.
They need to recruit drivers speaking better a foreign language.

We usually travel by our own. But, we read on guidebooks that to visit Sri Lanka a car with a driver is a good chance. We contacted to Lion Royal by mail and at that moment began the trip!
Now, we are finishing our trip and we actually think that it was a good option.
We don't have only a driver. We had an advisor, a guide, a friend... Hemantha Wijesiri is a man with knowledge in srilankan culture, found good places to eat, found the best guide in activities as Sigiriya Rock, Yala NP or watch whales in Mirissa. Every evening we planned the day after and he guided as to our option with an amazing results: leopard, cobra, blue whale, elephants

We are at the end of our 16 days tour arround Sri Lanka. With our driver Hemantha all is so easy. Allways punctual, always happy. He show us everything we wanted to see, very efficiently and professional. With his long experience he knows everything, not only cultural, even of wildlife, he is a good birdwatcher!! We come to Sri Lanka, as a combination of cultural and wildlife, and good food, and friendly people, that is Sri Lanka. Hope to come back again, we recommend Royal Lion, and specially Hemantha Wijesiri.

Again we used Lion Royal for transport during our trip to Sri Lanka. They provided a dual A/C van for 8 days to travel to Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Weligama and back to Colombo. They also booked us train tickets for our Nanu Oya to Ella scenic ride. As usual Manoja was her efficient self. The service was excellent with prompt advice and communication. Chaminda the driver was very knowledgeable both in terms of best routes to take, details of tourist attractions and every other detail you need to know of. His knowledge, demeanour and helpfulness made our trip all the more enjoyable. We would certainly use them for our future trips and recommend them highly. Thanks a million Manoja and Chaminda.

We had a wonderful experience with Lion Royal and our driver (Nimal) in Sri Lanka. Nimal was a gentleman who made us feel safe and comfortable -- he was trusted and dependable (always on time). He was friendly, charming and funny -- we enjoyed his company immensely during our week with him. Nimal was also very knowledgeable about Sri Lanka and what sights would make our vacation/holiday the best experience. We would highly recommend that anyone traveling to Sri Lanka use Lion Royal and especially Nimal as the driver.

A Huge 'Thank You' to Lion royal for their professional care in helping us to plan and assist us with our amazing Christmas family trip to Sri Lanka. From the moment we contacted them a few months ago about our trip they couldn't have been more helpful. Even though we changed our itinerary several times, they would always reply promptly with patience and advice.
Once we arrived in Sri Lanka, our wonderful, thoughtful driver Hassi, made us feel completely safe and at ease. Hassi became a great friend over the next few days and we trusted him completely to get us safely where we wanted to go. He was full of local information. He was always available to us anytime during the day and promptly collected us regardless of the early morning starts.
We owe our fabulous experience in Sri Lanka, to Lion Royal and Hassi.
We would recommend Lion Royal to anyone intending to travel to Sri Lanka and have already passed on their contact details to several of our friends.

dont worry about car. they use japanees cars, vans & chinees cars. but you can reqvest what you want. i'm allso work with lione royal long time as a tour guiding with driving.but my vehical is TOYOTA NOAH SUPER SALOON ( suv ) pasenger car.
