Stumbled upon this by accident while walking to the bank! I knew there was a cell in the vicinity but didnt know where it was. This tiny cell was where the last king of Kandy was imprisoned until he was sent away to Vellore in Madras in 1816. The structure is well maintained and looks quite new.

It took me two round around the block to find it.We asked the locals but they had no idea what we wanted. Finally when once again we walked near the tall black fence I saw it mirrored by the building inside the yard.
Exact location: at the very corner of Janadhipathi and Bank of Ceylon st.Entrance from Bank of Ceylon st.right behind the guard's stand.
The guard let us in and there it is: the orange cell.By now you know the history of the cell although some claim it was actually a British guard room. But we don't mind.We insisted and we found it.
Maybe one day the tourist authorities will mark with big signs the monuments in the city.
Anyway,it's there ! Don't give up !

This is situated at Fort just under Ceylinco tower, This is right in front of Bank of Ceylon and Twin towers. If you at Galle face you can walk across to this place and Dutch hospital. Unless you go and search of this place you will miss it.
The last king of Ceylon King Wickramarajasinghe (Arrested at Kandy in 1815) before he is deported to India for his execution he was kept at this place (cell) you can see the actual last things there, worth a visit
There is no entry fee.

i was saddened to note the size of the cell knowing that the last King of Lanka spent his last days here before being deported to Madras, India. This is an archeological site located in the car park of the Ceylinco building, opposite the World Trade Center on Bank of Ceylon Mawatha, Colombo 1. The yellowish color of the outer walls of the cell is the best way to find it.

This is in Colombo Fort and is not very much noticed by the general public unless otherwise they are directed to the location. Its a very small cell where King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, the last king of Sri Lanka was kept before he was taken away. Something good to see for knowledge.

Not worth driving to see, but if you’re in the area you can stop and look. More of a concrete block with a plaque on it, tucked in the corner of a parking lot. Not something to come too far to see.

This so called monument was first opened to the public in the late 1960's. It is largely forgotten today and not worth a special trip.

There has been detailed archaeological research (Sri Lanka Archaeology) which proves that this was not the prison cell of the last King of Kandy.

At the intersection of Bank of Ceylon road and Janadhipathi road in the Celynco headquarters parking lot, a small fish scale patterned roofed building is recognized as the prison cell of last king of Ceylon (Sri Lanka), although it leads to many arguments between archeologists.
On 18th February 1815, the king SRI WICRAMA RAJASINHA and his relatives were captured by British army and brought to Colombo in March 1815 and imprisoned in this chamber near the south gateway of Colombo Fort. On 24th January 1816 the king and relatives were embarked to Vellore in India. He lived there as a prisoner and died in 1832. This chamber has a unique architecture with its one wall has been finished in oval shape and with dome shape roof. Inside of the cell there are portraits of king and queen and the flag of Senkadagala Kingdom, which is the foundation to the current national flag if Sri Lanka.
