Great insight into tea making processes

We had a brief visit to this tea factory, as our driver/guide took us there on the way from our visit to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to our next destination in Colombo. Really... read more

We enjoyed the tour of the factory and we ate lunch at the onsite restaurant (average and expensive for Sri Lanka). We had a nice lady taking us around but felt the tour was very short, we were then led to a room to sample the tea's on offer (had really bad heartburn after) and were then let into the... More

Glenloch Tea was established 150 years ago and that in its self is quite remarkable to still be processing tea for export around the world. The tour was interesting to watch the process from start to finish and enjoy several tasting cups of tea at the end. The staff were friendly and we felt no pressure to make a purchase....but... Tour and tea tasting are free. tour is ok but not view of plantation, and not testing except one cup of tea so tea tasting is a disappointment. If you want to buy tea, this is the place to be ripped off. A total no go.. it's a surprise how they are still on business. If your tour is taking... More

We took some friends to the Glenloch Tea Factory as they had never been to a tea factory. A lady spent 30 minutes showing us around the factory after which we were offered a selection of four different teas to taste. I would describe the overall experience as being 'average', with a bonus perhaps being that we were not charged... More

The day we went there it was public holiday so had to see machines all at rest. In a way I think was good coz no noise of them. The guide who explained everything was a bit bore. She narrated everything like machine. Looked like she was tired coz they were running on skeleton staff.

We were given a quick tour of the factory. It was interesting to find out how tea is processed. We saw all the machines, etc. Tried only 2 different types of tea, they were ok. They have a shop where you're u can purchase tea. It would have been nice to go and see the workers picking the tea in the... More

Glenloch is 2 or 3 hours drive from Kandy but it is well worth the journey if, like me, you have never seen a tea plantation before. En route you pass through interesting countryside including tea growing areas as you get closer, and there are great views as you get higher. The factory tour and the tasting are really interesting... More

We had a brief visit to this tea factory, as our driver/guide took us there on the way from our visit to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to our next destination in Colombo. Really pleased we went. Had a full tour of the factory, during which we were told about the types of tea leaf, shown how it's dried and sorted into... More
