The capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, if it is a beautiful city then only because of Margalla Hills. Margalla Hills are blessings for people of twin cities. It has so so beautiful trails, amazing views, wildlife, and nature.

We spent only about an hour or so at the top of the hill but it was worth going all the way up on a very winding road. Recommend going there to have a beautiful view of Islamabad.

I am a frequent visitor of Trail-5 and other Margalla trails as these mountain trails are my primary exercise area. Trail-5 like other Margalla Trails can give you an elevation gain of 500 to 600 meters. It's a network of five trails comprising Trail-5, Trail-5 A, Trail-5 B, Trail-5 C and Trail-5 Fire Lanes. I have repeatedly tracked all of them numerous times sofar and have developed a solid climbing gait. Besides, I have also tracked on some gullies, ridges, unmapped  branch trails, tracks and other non track areas of these trails. During my prolonged hike sessions I have also encountered the famous snow leopard (Guldar) besides other wildlife like barking deers, iguanas, civet cats, snakes. Wild boars, kaleej  Pheasants and monkeys are in  abundance and a common sight for everyone. People  go to these  trails with various motives. Some are only casual recreational hikers. Others can be  climbing enthusiast who are serious climbers and go to the trails only to fulfil their climbing passion and to keep them to keep them physically fit. I keep an ultralight backpack which contains water, towels, eatables, first aid kit and emergency survival kit weighing under three kg. I have also looped to Tilla Charouni and Makhniyal Top from Trail-5 parking.
I love climbing these trails so much that they will remain are a part of me as long as I can do them.

Margalla hills are part of the Himalayas (its extension) and surround Islamabad. They are lush green and rocky with springs here and there. You can visit the hills in a car and also visit the various trails for hiking. There are 6 hiking trails, the most commonly visited are trail 1, 3 and 5. Trail 1 is the easiest and only takes 45-50 minutes climb to Daman e Koh. Trail 3 is steep and takes 3 hours of strenuous hike to top at Monal restaurant. Trail 5 is 5 kms and first 2 -3 kms are easy while the 2 kms is the steepest and require quite an effort to climb. It takes around 3 hours of strenuous hike to reach the top so take water along with you. This trail is criss crossed by water streams and springs. The views from above are breath taking and refreshing. It’s better to go for hiking on any of these trails early in the morning or late afternoon. And don’t forget a sun cap and good quality hiking shoes or joggers.

Great to know that there is a hill near the city. Easy access from the city of Islamabad. One must not miss if you are visiting the city. I enjoyed the trail going up where you could see the city.
