A would highly recommend a hike in the cities nearby Bogd Khan Uul area. The hiking and nature itself are lovely, but even better is seeing the many happy Mongolians (of all ages) enjoying this wonderful resource. 110% recommend.

From the Zaisan side you can access hiking trails quickly from the city center and you feel like you've left UB and are out in nature. However- this is a VERY popular hiking spot so it is often extremely crowded.

A good exercise in the morning walking up to the monument. I was there during winter, so it was cold on top there. Nevertheless it has a great surrounding view.

Interesting history of Buddhism and Mongolian monarchy systems. Fine paintings, exquisite costumes and carvings of all sorts of the olden times. Well described artifacts in English and Mongolian easily followed without any need for a guide.
