Ethical & Fair - supporting about 150 Mongolian & ethnic Kazakh artisans from all over Mongolia. From the most simple product to the most high end QUALITY is key. Artisans and Mary & Martha make a sustainable living and customers buy quality, useful products at reasonable prices. We are the only shop that buys all its products before we sell because we want to be fair to artisans and we believe in the products - all other shops pay artisans if their products sell.

After spending two weeks in Mongolia for work, my next mission was to find great souvenirs to bring back home that represented my time in this wonderful country. I went to the State Department Store which had a great selection of gifts but I felt like it was missing something. A friend recommended Mary and Martha and our group went... More

Hi Tanya, You've really made our day! I am pleased the information booklets were helpful - and it is going to be good to pass back your comments on products so the artisans can feel pride in the items they produce. I think we imagined working with 2-3 groups when we started ten years ago - now there are over... More

If you're looking for local handicrafts and want to support fair trade and small business, then Mary & Martha in Ulaanbaatar is the right place for you. I've shopped at and directed other people to Mary & Martha. All of the products have a story, usually about groups of people trying to help themselves or charity for people who cannot.... More

Mary & Martha was our heart-stopper in Ulan-Bator for so many reasons. Their products are absolutely amazing, of unique quality and so beautiful. Because the aim of our visit was first to learn about Fair-trade, we had the chance to meet with their artisans outside the city, and talked with them. Working with Fair-trade values is an amazing opportunity for... More

Mary & Martha is wonderful! The sole on my sneaker broke almost right in from of their store. I asked them about a place to get it fixed (they were handing out brochures on the sidewalk), and they immediately walked me a couple blocks away to the back of this building and in the basement where there was an unmarked... Buying cashmere in Mongolia is a bit of a no-brainer as it's so cheap compared to the Uk and great quality. The ladies here were very helpful, spoke great English and had a great range of cashmere, yak wool socks and handmade bags. Well worth a visit.

In Ulaanbataar, this is the place to pick up quality gifts. A 'fair trade ' outlet it has a variety of interesting traditional products made by local craftsmen. Woolens are a great buy here, especially the scarves. So also a host of smaller items, all beautifully crafted.

Beautiful collection of traditional Mongolian items. Fair prices and an excellent cause. Shopkeepers speak English and they take credit cards. Helps a lot when you are buying multiple items 😊

Hi Kelly, Sounds like you did us proud! Thank you. About 80% of our sales are by credit card - safer for us and customers alike as pick pocketing is a major problem in the summer months - so carrying and banking less cash is a good thing! More

It was a real pleasure to visit this shop on a recent trip to Ulaanbaatar and to buy all our souvenirs there. Wonderful products - really beautiful - produced by local people on a 'fair trade' basis. Everyone passing through UB should visit the shop. We can't recommend it too highly. John & Stella, Cardiff, UK
