I recently returned from a 2 week photography tour (thru IP Travel Photography) in Mongolia that was organised by Nomadic Trails. I was very impressed with the organisation of our tour where on every occasion we had comfortable, modern and clean transport waiting for us wherever we went and never did we have to wait for our meals either. As a vegetarian, my needs were completely met on every occasion with no fuss. All of our accommodation was also very comfortable, and whilst sleeping in gers, we even had staff members light our fireplace to ensure that we slept warm during each night. Not only was the service exceptional, but it was also incredibly friendly where we were always greeted with a smile and warmth. Our tour guide Tulga was very entertaining and extremely knowledgeable. I would personally book a tour with Nomadic Trails again in a heartbeat!

I've traveled all over the world and have rarely if ever experienced a guide service as thorough, attentive, and capable as Nomadic Trails. Tulga is truly one of a kind. We used Nomadic trails for a one month trip across Mongolia as show in the feature documentary "The Horse Boy." I'm not exaggerating when I say that the trip, the incredible experience, the magic - none of it would have been possible without Tulga and his guides. One thing we didn't fully show in the film is the friendship that developed between the family, the film crew, and Tulga and his son. He went out of his way to make our vision come to life and was one step ahead of us in every detail of the planning and execution. His passion for Mongolian culture is unparalleled as is his dedication to making your experience one that you will never forget!

Mongolia surpasses my expectations! We where traveling in a group of women on the Feminine pilgrimage into sacredness of Mongolia. We had a wonderful guide Tulga fluent in English and looking after every detail as well as arranging unforgettable visits with Mongolian families to horse riding to taiga. We took a road trip without roads from Ulaanbaatar to the taiga visiting the nomadic people who lives with a reindeers. Amazing sceneries that any photos cannot fully describe! It was amazing! We really got a first hand appreciation of the nomadic way of life and a chance to see incredible Mongolian scenery as well as herds of reindeers, horses, yaks, sheep and goats. And not only about the drive to the countryside, the culture, the food and the gers, but also about the people we met. During our journey into deep countryside into a wilderness, our guides the Nomadic trails team settled beautiful lunch tables on open air, sometimes near to beautiful river, sometimes in a highlands, or woods. And food was amazing! We felt safe, happy and nourished! They was patient and helpful throughout our trip. I'm so happy and grateful to Nomadic trails for having one of the best journeys in my life!

Our trip to Mongolia has been an eye opening and amazing experience. Nomadic Trails provided really good service at the start of the trip , they have a full fledged team consisting of 5 people (tour leader, tour manager, one cook and 2 drivers) that took care the 4 of us during our trip from Murun to Ulgii. They made sure we were kept warm at all times since the weather was unusually colder during our trip. We also bonded quite well with the team as they were generally a fun bunch. And on top of that, they organized a simple surprise for my mom as her birthday coincided with the trip - that was really sweet of them. All in all, we really enjoyed the itinerary. However, towards the last few days in Ulgii, the quality of their service dropped. Somehow the meals served in the hotel were much simpler even tho we're back in a small town. Our meals served in the outback were more extravagant. We think that this may be because they no longer stayed in the same building as us so they may have prepped simpler meals for easier transportation. The worst was when the entire team left us in Ulgii on our last day before we flew back to UB the next morning. During our time in Ulgii, they had another team servicing another tour group. And this group's flight to UB got cancelled on our last day in Ulgii. As such, our team and perhaps their team too (?) had to leave Ulgii in a hurry to get to the next province so that the other tour group could catch the next flight out. With that, everyone had left us in Ulgii without a single representative from Nomadic Trails. Later that day, the hotel lady was asking us for money as the hotel bills hasn't been settled. We were also told that the restaurant bills will be taken care of but when we got there, the restaurant people said we'd need to pay for our own dinner. It was hard to get in touch with our tour leader too as phone service is bad since they were still on the move in the countryside. They did send a friend over to help us with communications but he too needed to keep calling our tour leader as he wasn't aware of the full extent of the situation. We're thankful for his help but the right way was to have at least one representative of Nomadic Trails with us. In the end, everything was settled but it was still a very unpleasant last day for us. When we got back to UB, another representative from the company came to pick us up from the airport and spent the day with us. They took us out for dinner which we are thankful for but this is a compensation that we asked for. We had a lot of good memories but it's a shame that it had to end that way

Tulga took me on a 2-day private tour to Kharkorin and, without a single doubt, he was the perfect guide to take me. Not only was his English amazing, as a former guide instructor, he was also very knowledgable of all landmarks, relevant history, and nature. He also had a good selection of roadtrip tunes.

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar -> Kharkorin
- He made sure to slow down a bit (if we were making good time) whenever we passed somewhere interesting, such as the sand dunes of the mini Gobi, roadside monuments, and animal crossings.
- The drive itself took 5 hours leaving UB at about 8am. IMPORTANT: I highly recommend you find a private driver to Kharkhorin if you're short on time. The public bus takes about 7 hours and leaves at about 11am. Meaning you lose a full day of sunlight.
- In Kharkhorin, Tulga organised a private guided tour of Kharkhorin museum where I was introduced to the history of the ancient capital as well as a nice interactive VR experience. He then took me to the Erdene Zuu Monestary where his perfectly timed itinerary allowed me to experience a chanting ceremony with Tibetan monks. We then went off-roading into the Orkhon Valley to admire the views of the mountains, frozen rivers, and the city. Also checked out the phallic turtle rock and the Monument to Mongol States.

Day 2: Kharkhorin -> Hustai National Park -> Ulaanbaatar
- On our way back to Ulaanbaatar, we stopped by Hustai National Park to find the wild and endangered Przewalski's horses.
- Backstory: When I first called Tulga using my guesthouse owner's phone, his caller ID came up as "Horse Boy". Needless to say, I was expecting to find some horses and I wasn't disappointed.
- Not only did he find the horses by driving around the park and squinting into the hills, but he also knew how to approach them and get as close as possible without scaring them away. In fact, other tour guides in the park would stop him to ask where the horses were.

When I return to Mongolia, I'll 100% be reaching out to Tulga to make more use of his "Horse Boy" skillset with more wilderness/nature related trips.

Thanks Tulga!

Tulga led our week-long trip with friends to visit the Tsaatan people. It was a fantastically well organised trip, with Tulga and his team looking after us perfectly throughout. We stayed in some beautiful spots on our way to and from the reindeer people and Tulga ensured that our time with the Tsaatan was respectful and he clearly had an excellent relationship with them built over a number of years. We were always consulted over decisions about activities and where to stay. The chef who accompanied us throughout the trip was really good (meals included freshly baked bread, pancakes, pizza...). And we were lucky with the weather too.

We are a group of 5 ladies from Singapore. We book the 2 weeks tour based on some recommendation. The booking and administrative details and follow up needs to be improved.. response is generally slow and communications not so clear.
There was a hiccup in the beginning , dinner booking was not made in UB and we had to walk a good one hour before we settled on one available dining place. The next two weeks were rugged .. an unconventional travel that we embarked on in 2 jeeps traversing 3000 km Overall we had fantastic guide Buyna and two very different yet charming drivers Baija (the rocker) & Derem ( the Korean star look alike). They worked very well as a team to make sure we are comfortable (including nature calls) . While communications is limited with the drivers .. we managed to express our joy and fun. The country its very vast and have beautiful spots to show off and the culture has long history. It was truly a out of the norm experience to stay at gers ( keep getting our head knocked for the low doors)... using common toilets and showers ... limited electricity and water supply hours... we were very happy when we had ensuite toilets or ensuite shower/toilet for some accommodation. The food is better than we had expected and the tour agency provided extra fruits for us at our request.. We love the flaming cliffs ; the terej park; hiking up volcano to name a few... but most of us the journey in the jeep is unforgettable.. the bumpy; rocky; winding rides and the beautiful landscapes as we ride along. Buyna, Derem & Baija became a part of the travel fun too!
