It was a great tour with a safe drive, a private tour, and a nice explanation. They took beautiful pictures. I can't forget my memory in Mongolia. I will go again. I will use it again if I have a tour.

Thank you for guiding me.

My friend and I booked a 4-day tour of Mongolia with Rara Avis which included many of the sites in Central Mongolia. We LOVED it! Our driver and our guide, Heidi, were wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable. We never had to drive more then 2 hours at a time and yet covered a ton of ground. The food was pretty good along the way and we stayed at some of the nicest camps. The stay with the family in Semi-Gobi was definitely a highlight and spotting the wild horses in the national park was another. Highly recommend arranging a tour through Rara Avis - they are accommodating and lovely!

Today I had the pleasure of doing this tour with guide Eric. Having only two nights in UB between trains I thought I needed to see as much as I could in the short time available. I am very pleased I chose this tour. Eric was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. I am ashamed to say that, until now, I knew little of Mongolia apart from the stereotyped image of the "marauding Mongols" and the warlord Genghis Khan. I now realise that Mongolian history is rich in culture and they influenced much of the then-known world. The statue was, of course, incredible, but I particularly enjoyed the lamb dumpling lunch at a local national park settlement plus the delight of a bumpy ride on an ox cart. An added bonus was the brief stop to look at display of old Russian railway locomotives which Eric and the driver kindly added to my schedule before returning me to my hotel.
A delightful day, and I thoroughly recommend Rara Avis to anyone.

The tour was great the guide and the driver were perfect, we appreciated all what was done during this tour, the visit of Genghis Kahn statue, the Terelj National Park with a local lunch in a Yurt and the visit of the Turtle Rock and the Aryapala temple. All was perfectly organized and we had a lot of time to appreciate the different activities but we had ordered a private tour for two clicking on “Private & Custom Tours” and a third person participated to the tour (at least she was very nice). We paid more than 240 USD for this tour for two while we should have paid less than 160 USD for a tour with 3 people. I would like to understand from TripAdvisor and from the tour organiser why this has happened?

This was a fantastic day-trip from Ulaanbaatar. The guide met us on time in the hotel lobby and he spoke excellent English. The first part of the trip was very bumpy due to road construction, but then it got better. We did a quick stop at the impressive Genghis Khan statue, but the main event was the horseback riding in Terelj National Park. We enjoy a full three hours with the horses in magnificent nature, and then we were served lunch by the horse owner’s wife, in a traditional ger. So enjoyable, so well organised, so beautiful. Highly recommended!

Our excellant guide Tanya picked us up on time and we drove to the Ghensis Khan Statue which is huge.Explored the small museum and went up to the viewing platform in the horse's head. Then drove to Terelj national park for lunch. A real bonus we had not expected was a choice of riding to lunch or going by oxcart. Three of the 6 of us rode at no extra cost.
Had a local lunch in a ger well away from tourists and tourist camps. Milk tea , stew with dumplings, fritters filled with mutton. Finished by hiking near the Turtle rock.
It was our first day and we really felt like we had seen a slice of Mongolian life. Best for those who want local experiences not posh western food and facilities.
Note we are all seniors with a sense of adventure.

Today we had the privilege of our Horseback Riding Tour - our guide was Eric. The day began with a 9 am collection from out hotel - The Kempinski. We headed off to visit the statue of Ghengis Khan, all through this journey Eric provided an excellent narrative of the Mongolian history throughout the ages. We were very impressed with his knowledge & ability to answer our never ending questions- we had visited the National Mongolian Museum yesterday which was invaluable as it gave us an insight into the rulings, military power & nomadic lifestyle.
We then travelled to The Terej National Park - met our host & his wife, we were invited into their home & for lunch we had the most wonderful bowl of meat dumpling soup, milk tea & rose tea for me. This was a wonderful experience, their genuine hospitality & warmth was most heartwarming.
Our horses for the day were so perfect, calm, strong & patient - it had been a number of years since my husband & I rode a horse! We had 3 hours of forest trekking, breathtaking views of the mountains around us with crisp snow underfoot.
Eric & our wonderful driver continued to offer a first class service by taking us to local shops as I was on a mission to find “thick socks ” to take home. This had not been on our tour schedule!
To summarise our day - it was fabulous! I would & will be recommending this tour to all of those seeking a truly amazing experience

The Rara Avis team picked us up from our hotel and we started our day tour with temps at -27c. Bitterly cold. we visited the Gandantegchinlen Monastery and looked in on the young Buddhists who were going through their morning recitals. Then we departed for the Chinngis Khan memorial. Stunning views with the cold temps bringing very clear skies. From there we left for the Gorkhi-Tereij park. We stopped for lunch in a local Ger. Our host meet us with a cart drawn by an ox and took us to his Ger, crossing over the frozen river on the way. Lunch was excellent and eating in a distinctly local environment was a pleasure. Our driver leant my son his heavy coat to go over the one he already had on as the temperatures continued to fall. From there we took a drive through the park and visited the Turtle rock. Then back to the city where our guide took us to a couple of shops that we'd asked for. The team then dropped us off at our hotel.

All in all an excellent day. The Rara Avis team were excellent, our guide had very good English and gave us a running commentary on the history of Mongolia.

I'd fully recommend this trip to anyone. Families would especially benefit from taking a tour with Rara.

I had booked for 7 October 2018 and the car did not show up. The cell phone provided was not working, switched off. 9 hours later I got an email explaining they weren't able to provide the service, and that money would be refunded 3-7 days later.

I cannot overstate how amazing this trip is for people with just one free day in the capital. Pick up is very convenient and the hostess speaks incredible English. There is total freedom on the plains when you are riding the horses. It is a long ride though so be ready for some sore backs if you really get the horses to a gallop (which there are plenty of opportunities to do). The forest and mountain riding are equally fascinating and unique. I recommend bringing bottles of water or a camelbak for the trip as the altitude leads to a dry mouth. The food we were served for lunch was very good and seemed quite authentic. There was also more than enough for four grown men. The statue of chinggis khan is also impressive and one of those must see things while in Mongolia. Overall very happy with this tour and well worth the price!
