Chilled out cheap museum

Worth a visit can be done in about an hour or so and only cost 10,000 kip. Exhibits were great, learnt a lot more about the secret war fought by the Americans in Laos.

Simple but meaningful place to visit in Vientiane. Giving an idea about the interesting history of this country with pleasant and nice people.

Interesting exhibitions on the recent history of the country with a focus on the years of the liberation war and the period of the Vietnam war

The prehistory was pretty interesting but the modern history of the french colonization and the pivot to communism, American bombing and war was fascinating to read from the lao perspective. The displays were unusually poorly done but the info is priceless. Do it.

The museum is definitely interesting learning about Laos' history and archaeology. The building itself is quite run down and sometimes the translations aren't great but it's definitely worth a visit if you have a little time in Vientiane.

It was nice to see but we didn't really learn a lot. It wasn't expensive so a good part of our overall Laos experience, however, we would not have missed much had we not visited the museum.

Unfortunately this museum is very old and run down. The ground floor mainly about archeology but the upper floor is dedicated to the communist state. I'm glad we came here to understand the horrible history that the Laos people have endured which no one can deny. However it is in serious need of an injection of cash to update what... More

I would recommend you to visit this place if you want to know about the history of Laos, but the place isnt maintained at all and not every item has English translation. The entrance fee is 10,000 Kip and if you want to take picture you need to pay another 10,000. Well, it doesnt worth the second 10,000 because more... More

The Lao National History Museum is housed in a huge building (see NHM Veranda photo). Oddly enough, given the long and dramatic history of Laos, its exhibits all fit into only the front half of the building, albeit on both the ground and first floors of it. The information is well-presented, and all—or almost all—items are explained in good detail... More

Entrance fee 10k kip. The museum is not very big, but you can easely spent an hour or two if you read everything. All pictures have English and French translation, but sometimes we saw explanations in Lao language that were not translated.
