- Raintree_ThailandBangkok, Thailand4,280 contributionsGleaming with gold!Pha That Luang is an important national symbol of Laos. The structure has been built, damaged, destroyed, rebuilt, damaged, rebuilt many, many times; thus the current structure (some 45 meters in height) is actually not old. The stupa gleams a golden color, with the top pinnacle coated with gold leaf; the rest is covered with gold paint. The stupa is situated a fair distance from the commercial center of Vientiane, requiring a taxi or tuk-tuk ride or a long walk. Visitors can enter the compound for a fee of 30,000 kip and walk around the stupa. There are also artifacts and replicas of ancient statues on display. At an adjoining temple, there are beautiful mural paintings depicting facets of the life and enlightenment of Lord Buddha. Also a nearby large reclining Buddha.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 5, 2024
- DotsGirl2Vancouver, Canada452 contributionsImpressive gold stupa with a covered walkway aroundThe stupa itself is impressive. The very top spire is actual gold. There are covered walkways around the stupa that hold Buddha statues. Our guide told us it was good luck to walk around the whole complex once.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 16, 2024

Just beautiful and you do have to pay to enter but you can take photos from the outside as you cant actually enter it anyway as it is a solid structure. It is beautiful and inside the area there are more buddhas etc but the whole area is well kept and nice and open with no litter which was nice.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 15, 2024

- GM TranVietnam525 contributionsA Must-Visit Spot in Vientiane, Though Somewhat LackingThis place is considered a must-visit when in Vientiane. However, my experience was somewhat mixed. The day I visited, the place was relatively quiet and serene, but the heat was intense, making it a bit uncomfortable to fully enjoy the surroundings. While the location has its charm, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it lacked a certain uniqueness and didn’t seem to have been well-maintained or thoughtfully invested in. The overall atmosphere felt a bit underwhelming, as if it hadn’t received the attention it deserved in terms of upkeep and enhancement.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 3, 2024

The shear scale of the Stupa shimmering gold in the sunshine is breathtaking . Walk around the courtyards and see the lying Buddha which is quite beautiful too.Ignore all the tat for sale around including the caged birds .

The gold thing is spectacular in the sun and there are a few other landmarks worth a look, including a giant recumbent Buddha.
They provide wrap on modesty skirts for anyone wearing skimpy shorts but my girlfriend wouldn't let me wear one. I hope no one was distressed.

Nice Stupa just outside the city. Entry is ticketed but worth a visit if you are around. You can spend about an hour looking at the Stupa and various Buddha statues. There are also Buddha temples outside which you can visit.

Large complex, ornately decorated temples, lots of Buddha photo opportunities… beautiful reclining Buddha. Wear respectful clothing … cover shoulders and knees. 30 000 Kip is a bargain to see such lovely architecture .. people watching is great … if you are lucky like we were, you may see couples taking formal pictures (for a wedding…maybe?) … lots of fun.

This golden stupa is worth the travel to, especially when in Vientiane. Not much to see here but quite an eye opener with photo opportunities. Easily done within 20 minutes. And no, you are not allowed climb this landmark.

Our tour guide took us to this Stupa and surrounding temples. We have been traveling for over 25 days in SE Asia and we thought this complex was the prettiest. There is also a large reclining Buddha and a statute of a former king. I believe the entrance fee was 30,000 KIP. Well worth a visit.

We got a tuk tuk here as it is not in the centre of the city and walked back.Itis probably one of the best Wats and it has about twenty stalls in front of it with some great shopping for handicrafts ( sarongs at 50000, bags at 60000, scarves 40000…. Don’t forget to haggle….if they ask for 100000 probably settle for 50000)….There is a small entrance fee .
