An amazing three weeks of cycling in the wilds and high mountain passes of Kyrgyzstan including Juku and Kegety. We experienced the most wonderful hospitality and kindness from the many we encountered along the way. Best if you go with someone who speaks Russian, fortunately my son’s Russian language skills came back to him after a few years of no practice. We stayed in our tent, yurts, guesthouses and a couple of hotels. We admired glaciers whilst we had breakfast, saw some wolves and experienced the most beautiful scenery on earth.

I love the place and the people. Only issue is with the language, it is extremely difficult to find people who can communicate in English. I recommend people to know basic Russian, it will help big time. People are not cheats and they have some amazing locations to go to. We went to Supara, it still comes in my dreams. Blissful place, difficult to reach though because of the bad road but once you are there, can’t stop but admire the beauty of nature. Food is amazing but get used to the houseflies which occupy your room and give your company.

Issy Kul was part of heaven. I see snow capped mountains while sun bathing on the beach. Absolutely stunning.

Bishkek is an awesome place to unwind and party. Extremely friendly place except biased towards Indians in some clubs. They as where are you coming from and they might ask for your IDs.

Downside - I spent 3 hours at the airport due to unclear rules around visa on arrival. My Indian friends spent 20 hours at Bishkek airport as the visa rules changed. Unfortunately they are extremely slow processing visa on arrival and visa cost is bit atrocious $50 pp, which is comparable to any European country and the country is not part of euro. Again at the airport you don’t find people who can speak English, so you basically are at mercy of some Good Samaritan who can help. My fellow travelers were about to be deported and I was wondering, we had come to Kyrgyzstan as tourist and we were spending money and them behaving badly was not what was needed. So, my fellow Indians I will say better get your visa sort before you go as visa on arrivals is not clear in this country. Btw, Kyrgyzstan looked more like Himachal.. so guys take a trip in our own country and admire its beauty and beautiful people without being humiliated in foreign land.

The issuance of tourist visa took almost 3 hours, the emigration staff was very rude and uncooperative, they have only single staff issuing visas to all the visitors and the lady assigned for the task was behaving very badly with the tourist. 50$ for 30 days tourist visa is very high compared to other countries. Infrastructure of the Country is very poor and very poor sanitation at the tourist places. This country is and the people are not ready for tourism

Based on My personal experience when I decided to go to Krgystan.
1.E visa-Please apply for visa online it takes exactly 7 working days if you apply on Sunday evening you will receive it only on the following Tuesday evening.
2.Visa on arrival-please be ready to wait for 4 to 5 hours if 2 or 3 flights land at the same time. There was only one person to issue visa for plus 200 people.Hats off to her (staff)patience as the people didn't maintain a queue they were just pushing each other.
3.US dollars 60(visa charge) Please carry US dollars with you exactly 60 dollars as the master card and visa card doesn't work at times not only inside the airport even in restaurants too.
4.Waiting Charge for Taxis-Only one hour is free after that they charge extra dollars so please carry sufficient cash.
5.ATM cash withdrawal-You cannot withdraw more than 100 dollars at a time every time there's a transaction fee so please carry around 500 Dollars in cash for a 3 or 4 days trip.
6.On the way back to Krygstan Airport-Drinking water cannot be carried at baggage screening it will be disposed plus honey too.
7.Make sure you carry good pair of shoes not slippery ones during winter especially for small trekking as the slopes are slippery.

Before travelling to Kyrgyzstan on August 2018, I have tried googling what most likely the weather will be and it showed that August is the least cold month of the year. So, I packed my clothes bringing summer outfits. So I was shocked upon going out of the Airport feeling cold. On the way to my Hotel, my worries died down upon seeing the view, feeling the breeze and forgetting all about uncertainties. Kyrgyzstan is really the place to be if you want to disconnect with the world. It was a good decision that I travelled alone to Kyrgyzstan. You forget your problems, your work, you disconnect to social media, you expand your perspective, you escape the world, and you appreciate life. It was surreal!
