- Cynthia SSeattle, Washington96 contributionsI walked from the Ramada Hotel to the Osh Bazaar on Tuesday, October 15. It took me 28 minutes. The Bazaar is a sprawling entity with many alleys, smells, and goods for sale. Very few of the vendors took credit cards which meant I was not able to purchase much. I should have thought about that ahead of time. Many of the vendors sold a lot of the same things (spices, candy, nuts, etc. clothing, shoes, scarves, school supplies) but I did not find many vendors who sold Kyrgyz souvenirs. Regardless, it was a rich experience to wander through the many alleys of the Bazaar. I especially loved the smells of the produce area. I was so impressed with the hard work of the vendors, as well.Visited October 2024Traveled soloWritten October 15, 2024
- mrc282World9,938 contributionsThe souvenirs sold here are much cheaper than Tsum Center (Floor 3). The bazaar is a bit of a maze, but for souvenirs, head to the building called "Kyial" National association of folk art crafts on Google map Take note this is a bazaar with all kinds of things, including daily provisions for locals. You can spend hours here, indoors and outdoorsVisited August 2024Traveled soloWritten August 18, 2024
- kenkehSubang Jaya, Malaysia4,373 contributions1st visit of Bishkek city is to Osh Bazaar , it’s a huge bazaar , different section for fruits & vegetables, nuts , grocery etc . You can bargain here with using app translate to Russian language . We bought some fresh strawberries 🍓 and dried nuts from hereVisited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten August 13, 2024
- wandermustDubai, United Arab Emirates65 contributionsReally the best place to buy souvenir and local handmade stuff. The prices are really good and the shop keepers are nice try the price are mostly good but can get a 100-300 c discount. But I believe in supporting small shop owners so I loved the place and shopped a lotVisited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 13, 2024
- Matt PLutherville, Maryland280 contributionsThis is a sprawling market with anything and everything. You want army fatigues? No problem. A plumbing fixture? Right this way. Spices, fresh meat, eggs, textiles, knock off designer brands? check, check, and check. I bought some souvenirs with the help of our guide, but there really is not a lot to see here. If you go, keep personal effects close. As of Oct 2024 the word is that this place will be moved to a new location in late 2025.Visited October 2024Traveled soloWritten October 26, 2024
- brian cDubai, United Arab Emirates1,129 contributionsJust another normal market selling spices, sweets, dry fruits, local bread, souvenirs etc. The place was not crowded as we went in the morning. Getting car parking within the area is a bit of a challenge.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 26, 2024

I visited Osh Bazaar on my visit to Bishkek. It is a very interesting place and has a maze-like character to it. I was told by local friends to be on my guard because there is some theft that goes on in the Bazaar. I found the merchants to be pleasant and polite and I was able to buy a few items for good prices. If you are looking for some of the wonderful local honey or bread or other local items, they can be found here.
As a note, not all of the merchants spoke English. Of course I would not expect them to, but if you are traveling from the West and don't speak Kyrgyz or Russian do not expect everyone to speak English or other Western European languages.

My friend and I wanted to buy uncooked corn kernels to make popcorn. It is hard to buy US style popcorn here in Bishkek, the stuff in the cinemas is mostly too sweet and caramelized.
Once we left the street, and entered the Osh bazaar market by one of the main entrances, we were met with swarming crowds all pushing against us. I love markets, but we were not there to browse, we wanted popcorn, and determined to find it. It was like being in a maze crossed with an obstacle course. Hurly burly with no sense of direction. We just had to keep pushing on, till we got closer to a veggie market section. What an array of different veggies! Neatly stacked polished aubergines next to delicious looking carrots and the freshest spinach. But where was the pop corn?. Nearly an hour later, after traversing stacked passage ways with every type of vegetable matter known to man and beast, we still had not located the golden yellow kernels. But we’re not quitters, determined to achieve our objective. We pushed on. But nearly at the point of admitting defeat, and on the verge of giving up, as we’d nearly lost each other about three times( thank goodness for cell phones) the popcorn found us. We bought two kilo of the kernels, and madly laughing like school kids, we realized we still had to find our way out!

Like all markets and bazaars, Osh is a little crazy, chaotic, and are you likely to get lost! Of course it’s best if you have a local friend or guide who can help you but it’s a fun place to park around even if you’re on your own. I’ve been told to be careful of pickpocketers but have not had any problems. I expect that if they see a foreigner many venders will quote you a higher price — you can attempt to negotiate but I’m not sure how successful you’ll be if you don’t speak the language.

I love markets like this, so loved to walk around here and treat the senses to all sorts of smells and sights! If you want to get an idea of everyday life in Bishkek, the market is the place to go. It's busy, of course, but you can buy virtually anything you need for your trip in the country and it's all very affordable. Also excellent for shoppping souvenirs to bring home. I bought some really good honey and spices. Don't forget to do a bit of haggling; it makes it all a bit more fun.

The hugest bazaar I had ever seen. Literally you can find there anything in your mind.
Clothes, shoes and slippers with too much varieties and different quality , souvenirs, toys, skincare, pastries, nuts, dried fruits, their famous dried cheese, at least 15 types of black tea plus other kind of tea, all food kind like chicken, horse meat.
Also there's a center for gold selling (only 14 k available there) where you can find exchange currency as well but also you can find currency exchange in streets of bazars.
Don't try to explore all the bazar as it may takes 3 days. You can plan for half day at least for shop and enjoy as much as you can.
Be careful as you may meet harassers or pickpockets at to crowded areas.
There's also some good restaurants there.
Prices are much better than in the city.

I like the market. You got everything here and if you can speak russian you need to bargen, not just pay the price asked. Never change cash by someone that ask you, ther are banks nearby or atms. For me friendly living place that takes time and good shoes to visit.

Many people may not fancy visiting shopping districts when in a new city. However, Osh bazaar is truly an authentic Kyrgyz experience. The bazaar has different sections and it is very popular with locals for their daily purchases. It shows you the real-life experience of the locals. Strolling around could be a lot of fun.
