Our group of 7 seasoned travelers had a wonderful time with our guide Abdu Samardov. We traveled to Tashkent, Bukhara and Samarkand over one week's time, spending about 2 days in each city. A couple of highlights were creating ceramics in Tashkent and visiting a local village outside of Samarkand for a short hike. The food, transportation and accommodations were all very good and Luca at Kalpak was very responsive on some last minute changes to our itinerary. As someone else wrote, you should visit before the crowds arrive -- the people, the culture, the history -- all made for a very special educational and fun experience!

The guide you get can make or break your experience in a new place. Abdu Samadov and Kalpak Travel together made our visit to Uzbekistan a lifetime memory. I was in the group of 7 with robertrS8498GF (see his review) and concur with him that this trip was arranged to perfection, starting with an arrival in Tashkent a half-hour earlier than expected but there was Abdu to greet us and give us our first of many positive impressions of him and your company. Uzbekistan is a beautiful country with wonderful people. If you have never been, or perhaps never even thought of Uzbekistan as a travel destination, change your ways and add it to your list. But, by all means, go with Kalpak Travel and, if at all possible, insist on experiencing the country with Abdu Samadov--intelligent, educated, interesting, personable, kind, flexible, funny, and a sorcerer with an iPhone camera.

I was part of a group of 7 well-traveled Americans who used Kalpak Travel to see Uzbekistan and we had one of our best vacations ever. Luca did a fantastic job taking our interests and suggestions and putting together a perfect itinerary for us. From getting off the plane in Tashkent at 4 am and meeting our guide Abdu, to getting taken back to the airport at 4 am in Samarkand, everything went seamlessly. Abdu was extremely knowledgeable, but also, funny, personable, and engaging. He read our group perfectly -knowing when we were hungry, tired or confused by all the new information. Luca was very responsive and flexible with our last minute adjustments. I would highly recommend using Kalpak in the future.

It was supposed to be a group tour but it ended up being just me & my husband. We had a driver & a English speaking tour guide to ourselves. We were taken to all the places included in the itinerary + anywhere we wanted to go. Tour guide would stay with you from the time you wake up until you went to bed. Food was delicious & history was much more than I could even comprehend. Guides are highly knowledgeable. Luca & I Jaan had dinner with us with a presentation of local musicians. I would recommend this travel agency to anyone. Thank you all for making this trip amazing. Arjmund

Kalpak travel (info@kalpak-travel.com) was a pleasure to work with. They are very knowledgeable, organized, clear and responsive to our interests. We signed up for the 7-day small group tour in Uzbekistan but had a few extra days, so Luca recommended 3 days in Kyrgyzstan, driving around the Issyk-Kul lake. The tour included demos of making felt rugs, of building and assembling a yurt, and a visit to the Shygaev Museum, some short hikes and a folk music concert. We had a very informative guide and excellent driver. The accommodations and food were fine - genuine, but clean. In Uzbekistan we took the 7-day tour (Tashkent, Khiva, Bukara, Samarkand). Our guide, Mirza, was fabulous, the drivers were great and we were well cared for throughout. The guide was responsive to our interests (art, history and some shopping) and all the trains and flights worked very smoothly. The guide was so knowledgeable, and made the complicated history of this region understandable. He also quickly picked up on what we did and didn't eat. Luca and his company are so knowledgeable and so helpful. And also so organized (complete with cell phone numbers for guides). We asked for authentic (not plastic) hotels, and were delighted with his choices. I can't recommend kalpak-travel highly enough.
