I booked this tour literally last minute, as in 9am on the same day, having just discovered this amazing opportunity while eating breakfast and searching the web. Not only was the organization incredibly prompt and responsive to my inquiry, they accommodated me as well! I found my own ride to the sanctuary as the AM Phnom Penh pick up had passed, so I didn't arrive until noon. The home cooked traditional Cambodian meal that greeted me on arrival was absolutely delicious. Vut & Alyssia even allowed me to stay later than the original 1530 end time for the tour, so that I could meet Lucky and Chouk (elephants); I had missed their introductions from earlier in the day. It is obvious how much the staff enjoys their conservation work and caring for the animal residents. I strongly encourage anyone who has the time to visit Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center, and know the fee is directly supporting the Wildlife Alliance and all the amazing work the organization does!

Just had a wonderful behind-the-scenes experience with Alicia and Samadee. It was my first time to have encounters with rescued animals of this scale, all with stories that are enriching. Lucky the elephant was charming –– we were even able to give her snacks. I've also never been so close to a tiger, clouded leopard, and moon bears. The team welcomed all our questions, and took great care of our little group. Truly appreciate their effort and heart for the animals in their care.

Educational, fun, and meaningful. I highly recommend going here and supporting this advocacy.

We did the behind the scenes day tour. We were picked up from a local gas station by two wonderful reps of the park, a man (named Vet) and woman. They truly made the whole experience great. Our group was us and a family. We had the great opportunity to stop and see a market and buy food for the monkeys. Then we headed to the park and got to meet an elephant on her morning walk. This experience was magical! Then we spent the rest of the day meeting more animals and learning about them. We had a traditional lunch sitting in a shaded area. At the end we got a chance to feed monkeys. It is great to see the work they are doing here is actually helping the animals unlike some other places. You can tell they all truly love what they do! I highly recommend this tour if you have an extra half day in Phnom Penh. And if you are worried about safety, I felt very safe the whole time. On top of it all they went out of their way to drop us back home at our hotel. They do say flip flops okay but I highly recommend wearing closed toe shoes as you walk through a lot of red ants. And tons of bug spray!!

We did the behind the scenes tour of Wildlife Alliance at Phnom Tamao. Our guides, Samedi and Vut, were absolutely exceptional and really took time to explain everything thoroughly and provide comprehensive answers to all my questions. Prior to the tour, I felt this was quite expensive, but having finished the tour I appreciate that rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife is indeed expensive work. Additionally when considering all their operations which we didnt experience first hand in other parts of Cambodia, I am pleased I contributed to such a great organisation. We also briefly met and spoke with the director, Nick, at one point during the day which was cool. Thanks Wildlife Alliance for showing us what you do.

After a long time, I managed to go there with again - this time with my 8 yr old son. We both had an awesome experience. We started with a trip to the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center for a day. Easy pickup and drop-off in Phnom Penh. This was the 2nd trip there for me (last in 2017). Definitely a highlight for my son and myself again. Just meeting Lucky (their Ambassador Elefant) and spending some time in the monkey cage feeding the young ones was awesome. As a special highlight, they were flexible enough and let my son visit and feed "his" monkey (I had a monkey name after my son last year - something I can highly recommend as a "present" to any child or any other animal lover).
After the rescue center, we spent another 3 nights at the Wildlife Release Station near Koh Kong. Wonderful place out in the jungle and seeing their work first hand. Also enjoyed seeing all their (hopefully soon to be released) animals and some of the already release animals dropping by for some food.
Overall, the week is hard to describe, but based on the fun I had myself and my son's constant asking about going there again... It's a bargain for some of the best vacation experiences I ever had.

This was THE BEST experience! I did the ‘Behind the Scenes’ Tour and it was incredible. I learned all about the rescued animals and even got up close and personal with a few. Hand feeding Lucky the elephant was a dream come true and she even painted a shirt for me to take home. It was a truly incredible day!

I had such an amazing day at the rescue centre. The tour guides (Im terrible with names) were great and so friendly. They were very well versed in all the going’s on at the centre and you could see the passion they had for the welfare of the animals. It was refreshing to see such a well run centre.

Seeing Lucky & interacting with her was a very special moment. You can tell she loves the centre and the staff and she is so well cared for. We met her on one of her daily walks.

The interactions I had will all of the animals was done in a safe & humane way and that it what’s special about this centre. We kept a respectful distance but still felt very involved.

The transport and lunch provided was great.

I would recommend this to anyone travelling to South East Asia who is looking to do a trip with any wildlife.

Thanks for a great day!

We've been on many visits to wildlife conservations and we lived in Africa for many years, but this was a definite highlight for us. The day felt more like friends of friends taking us around their workplace and giving us the inside scoop. I've never had so many opportunities to be so close to wild animals in a safe and comfortable way.

Bring your camera, sure, but take the time to take it in and ask tons of questions. Our guides were lovely. Although the day had an 'itinerary' they were flexible and always pointing out extras. We never felt rushed. We learned so much and it never felt preachy.

Doing this tour is a win-win; it’s a win for you and a win for a good cause. It really is a worthwhile tour to do if you can spare a day while in Phnom Penh. You’ll get a chance to see many indigenous animals of Cambodia (many of which are disappearing due to habitat loss) and some non-native species. They have all been rescued so this is truly a wildlife sanctuary and not a zoo. If the animal is a good candidate for release it will be - some are released right into the forest around the sanctuary. Highlights of the tour include seeing Lucky, the elephant up close, seeing Chouuk, the elephant get his prosthetic foot put on, watching the sun bears cavort, going to the nursery and going into a monkey enclosure to feed them. The animals are all treated with sensitivity and are not forced to do things they don’t want to. Shout out to Alicia and Vut who are both knowledgeable and humorous and do an excellent job of informing you about all the lovely creatures.

What can I say but this day was wonderful finale to my trip!
Meeting the elephants up close and feeding them, learning how they ended up at wildlife alliance very educational trip. I had a very small group the pick up was well communicated and on time, the leaders / keepers loved the animals and knew all about their history. Lunch was delicious too. Thank you for an excellent day!
