Phnom Penh’s Old Market, which Cambodian’s know as Phsar Chas, is close to the Night Market, situated between streets 108 & 110. From the riverfront take the short walk down 108 & the market will be on your left after crossing street 13. Continuing down 108, keeping Phsar Chas on your left, you arrive at street 15 which is narrow & often covered with plastic sheeting & tarpaulins, to fend off inclement weather. This is the area where you will find fresh meat, fish, crabs & vegetables.
Many of the vendors open around 6am while others appear to close by late afternoon. Best time to visit would be early morning, say 8am.
Phsar Chas, with many narrow passageways, serves the needs of local businesses such as hotels & guest houses with fruit, vegetables, fresh meat/fish & cut flowers. It is also the place to get your hair re-styled or a quick trim & have your nails repaired & decorated. I noticed at least one small business where clothes can be altered or repaired including replacing a broken zip or missing buttons. Other small shops sell a mix of household requisites & cosmetics. You will also find Buddhist candles & incense sticks with an array of related items in some of the market’s small units.
Everyone is welcome although not really a tourist attraction, but none-the -less, well worth the opportunity of witnessing the comings & goings of a very busy traditional Cambodian market.

noisy, crowded, warm, sensory overload. All that I was hoping for at a market. And most definitely not a lot of tourists! I love the different "sections", ranging from wet market, fruit & veg, spices, houseware items, shoes, jewelry, haircare (!) and of course, clothes and fabric. Remember to bargain!

Old Market is a genuine Asian market. From the outside the square seems to be a mass of canopies and dis-organised stalls, and once inside it becomes a spralling maze. The canvas roofs hang low across the narrow walkways, causing me to stoop half over, where a wrong step will see you step on a product or into a delicate display of goods. I came across an entire section of the market given over to salons, with hair extensions hanging from hooks like some bizarre trophy and women sitting on sheets on the ground, faces plastered in some beauty treatment. Other areas sported large glossy cabinets sparkling with golden jewellery. Yet other areas were filled with more mundane items, like buckets, bicycle tyres and even padlocks. At the western end is a food market, rich with strong smells and amazing sights.
Phsar Chas is not a tourist market in the traditional sense – there is little here that would catch a tourists eye in terms of merchandise to buy, but it is a real experience to meander through the maze inside the market, exploring and coming across some of the most amazing sights and smells. A very genuine insight into Cambodian life and an interesting experience. A must-see in Phnom Penh.

As a long-term resident, this is by far my least favorite market in phnom penh.

The ground is slippery and unever, dark inside, and the ceiling is way too low (I need to stoop in many places).

Prices are also a bit higher than other markets nearby.

A good place to get souvenirs, largely the same as the night markets that dot Siem Reap Old Town. Bargain hard, and buy in larger quantities for good discounts. It's really for tourists. If you want a real local market in Siem Reap, go to Phsar Leu (Central Market). That is one big market and very local... don't expect the gaudy trinkets, and silk stuff...

This is a true Asian market, and worth a visit. It's geared towards residents rather than tourists, so if you spot something you want as a non-resident, be prepared and learn a few Khmer words to help your haggling

You can buy a lot kind of souvenir at here. this market is very special, it has unique characteristic. especially, the price is not expensive. I went with my boyfriend and we spent over 3 hour to shopping in there. the souvenir is very nice. This market also have a range of typical food such as insect fried. It's really good, have brittle, delicious. Maybe you can be fair but should try. at first I don't dare, but I saw many tourist ate and gave a lot of praise. Wow I really worthy for try. It was regrettable if you don't eat insect fried when traveling Phsar Chas!

if you're looking for souvenirs and other touristy things, you won't find them here.
But a great spot on a friday night cos the night market is also open so you can kill the proverbial 2 birds.
Phsar Chas (old market) has loads of household stuff, fruit and veg plus wooden spirit houses and pagoda/monk accoutrements on the river perimeter. live fish writhe in aluminium pans, and there's a phot op waiting at every stall.
just down street 108 on the riverside corner you'll also find an ANZ ATM. the Mat shop is also on 108 about 50m from the market for all your basketry requirements.
A good solid little market.

Phsar Chas (old market in Khmer) is one of the proper local markets. You will still find the typical tourist t-shirts and elephant pants but you'll also be able to find actual Cambodian products among all the household goods that the Cambodians will come here to purchase. There is also a food section with sort of fresh fruits and vegetables among chopped meat and still living fish to be eaten. Worth a stop on your tour of Phnom Penh.

Phsar Chas means Old Market. Its where the localsv seem to shop for anything from vegetables to clothes. Might interest those who want to catch a feel of a Khmer local market. The market is situated in the 13/15th street and Street 108/110 area.
