The Killing Field and Toul Sleng Genocide Museum Tour

77 reviews
A professional English speaking tour guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the killing fields of Choeung Ek Genocide Center – 9 miles away south of Phnom Penh. The infamous killing fields have a bloody history. Once an orchard and a Chinese cemetery, the Khmer Rouge, lead by Pol Pot, turned the place into what became known as the killing fields, where they executed around 20.000 victim. Over three years, they massacred and buried 2.5 million people. After remembering the dead, return to Phnom Penh to visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21). Meaning hill of the poisonous trees, Pol Pot turned a once popular high school into a high security prison. 20,000 people were imprisoned there, many of whom were tortured for information. Today it serves as a museum and a reminder of darker days. <br>Your guide will return you to your hotel or guesthouse. .

Continued preservation of the performing arts in Cambodia is embodied in Experience Cambodian Living Arts. It is said that some 90% of Cambodia's artists did not survive the regime of the Khmer Rouge. The work of Experience Cambodian Living Arts serves to nurture the country's rich heritage of traditional dances. As such, the performance of "Earth and Sky" was much more than just an entertaining show. Being able to attend was a great way to provide a very small contribution in support of the arts scene of Cambodia and enjoy a great evening out at the same time.

Everywhere else in Cambodia they manage to perform dances for tourists. Don't see them: the only place to enjoy traditional dances is here in Phnom Penh at the National Museum, with the Experience Cambodian Living Arts company. The dancers are top notch, costumes are beautiful and music is played along in real time, nothing is recorded. Schools for traditional arts really need to be supported here and they also have a social value, so I beg other turists not to complain so much about the asking price of the exhibition, which is rather high (currently 15 US$) for Cambodia but not for Western people (compare the price of a musical show in New York).

I wanted to experience a traditional Cambodian dance and music show while on my trip, and this show did not disappoint! The open air theater was very comfortable and a very cool setting behind the National Musuem, which is lit up with many lights at night for a dramatic setting. The show consisted of 8 different traditional dances accompanied by live Cambodian music. It was amazing to see the extremely colorful costumes and different style dances, and the dancers were all super talented. The theater is open as to the roof but the mosquitoes weren't bad at all. I would recommend wearing bug repellant just in case. Overall a great way to enjoy yourself and experience some amazing culture at the same time!

Do not miss this excellent show performed by young professional dancers. A non-stop variety of dance styles with magnificent costumes. An interesting (and not expensive) show full of grace, dynamism and humour.

My sister and I went to the dance show and found it very moving. It is a great way to experience a little of Cambodian culture through dance. If you are in Phnom Penh its a wonderful way to spend the evening. The dinner can also be added if you have the time. Unfortunately we were leaving in the morning. Also, if you have seen other sites like the killing fields, which are depressing, its a great way to lift your spirits.
