I recently completed Nathan’s 2023 India Holi Festival tour. I’m pretty well traveled, but this trip has to rank at the top of my trips .
From my initial inquiries, to the trip’s conclusion, Nathan’s operation was first-rate in every aspect. Beginning with Tim, Nathan’s admin POC, the registration and administrative preparations were straight forward and easily completed. I encountered no glitches in traveling to India and clearing Customs and Immigration in New Delhi. We were kept informed of important information throughout the preparation phases. I arrived two days early to rest and adjust to the time changes. Working with Nathan’s local expert, Ash, Tim also arranged for me to have a private guide and driver before the actual start date of the Holi tour.
When I discovered that I had packed the wrong charger for my camera batteries, Ash produced a loaner that was a trip-saving bonus.
Once the tour started, it was action-packed with access to places and sights I would have never seen otherwise. Much more than simple postcard subjects, we got up close and personal with Indian locals in their environment. At every stop we photographed subjects that conveyed the essence of the country. The Holi Festival ceremonies in Vrindivan and Kolkata, while different, were simply amazing.
At each stop, the hotel accommodations were first class and conveniently located. The quality of the food and service were excellent across the board. The Varanasi hotel was particularly impressive since it directly overlooked the Ganges, making it perfect for early morning observations of the worshippers and their activities.
As promised, at the Taj Mahal, we were first through the gate, led by Tommy, Nation’s local expert who led us in succession to all the prime photo venues before the hordes descended.
Without exception, I found each of my fellow travelers to be avid and capable photographers. Nathan and Ash were always available to share their photo knowledge, leading me to new perspectives and techniques for my own work.
In summary, Nathan’s tour was among the top highlights of my life. I plan to take a future trip with Nathan, most likely Vietnam. I strongly recommend you do the same.

I've just returned from a 12 day trip around Cambodia with Nathan and cannot recommend his tours more highly. Nathan spent 14 years living in Cambodia and that is really evident in his ability to speak Khmer, his understanding of Khmer culture, his deep friendships that he has developed over time and his thorough understanding of the country and its hidden gems.
Nathan's tour was extremely well planned, he is a great teacher and very patient - he clearly loves what he does and the people he interacts with. This tour is not about "taking" photos but about building relationships with the people who we photographed and is a refreshing and respectful approach to photography. I will definitely be booking another tour - the question is which one?

I have traveled throughout my career to over 42 countries. Traditionally, I travel alone with a friend and a driver. But as an exception, hands down, the three trips I took with Nathan Horton are the most memorable. If you want to be with one of the most premier talented photographers you should choose Nathan. His photographs are works of art, full of emotion, full of culture and tell an instant story of the peoples and country in which they were taken. And, he shares it with his group giving technical support and suggestions to improve your own photos. With Nathan you will be integrated with the culture in such a personal way you will experience the true nature of the country, its peoples and landscape. He is the peid piper so congenial with the locals that they willingly allow themselves to be photographed. He organizes the tribal peoples in costume to be photographed in their element. His tours travel through the countryside to find the most spectacular landscapes as well in out of the way locations not often impacted with bus loads of tourists. The groups sizes are limited so you can expect personal attention. I hope I have the privilege of traveling again with Nathan as I have a portfolio of the best photos I have ever taken and an understanding of the country in which we have traveled because of my trips with him.

Thanks for your fabulous review Mary. In return, I hope to have the privilege of your company in the future. Anyone with such experience in life as you is always welcome, but you always bring a very personal touch which is also an asset to the tour. Thanks for your good company. Kind Regards Nathan

After completing a trip to Ladakh I now understand why travellers sign up for more adventures with Nathan. Nathan's photographic excursions are professional in every context and participation is an eye opener, not only for the scenery but photographic knowledge gained and the unpretentious style that Nathan explains the best angle, lighting and camera settings to capture images. He generously shares his knowledge and experience with location opportunities and post production which encourages the traveller to continue to seek a better understanding of photography and camera settings and maintain enthusiasm.

Did my second photography tour with Nathan this September and if I had the funds I’d already be booking my third! There is a reason Nathan gets so much repeat custom, he is simply excellent at what he does. His tours are well researched, well executed and well, just fantastic! He is an amazing teacher with the patience of a saint. Whether you’re a keen amateur, a professional or just picking up your first camera , you are guaranteed to come away with amazing shots and have a ball with like minded people in the process. Having been doing his tours for as long as he has, he has cultivated close relationships with the locals, which makes for such fantastic photos and seeing their faces when he hands them a copy of a picture he took on his last trip is just heartwarming, not to mention all the hidden gems he has found throughout the years that I would never in a million years found by myself. His local guides are excellent, helpful and informative. All in all, I can’t recommend a tour with Nathan enough

What an amazing opportunity to see Vietnam!! This trip is not to be missed !!! it has exquisite city & rural experiences rich for a photographer’s lens. The people and places presented a cornucopia of landscape & portraiture treasures.
From the initial contact through the post-trip follow-up, the communication with Nathan & his team was flawless.

Meeting up with Nathan again after a break because of the pandemic was a highlight.I have been on four other tours - Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar, and Ladakh. I would know 5 of the other photographers, 8 of us in total.. from previous trips. Familiar and yet exciting as I know I would have lots of new experiences..! A terrific two week tour of the North of Vietnam, leaving from and returning to Hanoi with a Halong Bay night on a boat. A tour in which I felt safe and well looked after in every respect. Travelling on my own this is important to me.. being in an older age bracket!! . Being given a wide range of photographic opportunities.. people, places and things as well as within those experiences learning something of life in Vietnam and its lovely people. Going to SE Asia I would only choose to go with Nathan who had not lost any of his drive and enthusiasm to make sure the group gelled... even with the Pandemic time out. His local guide, Canh , was second to none in ensuring we were fed and watered and got to the places we needed to.. ! Oh and the drivers of our two mini buses were outstanding.. some tricky roads in the mountains! And if you read the review from Jeff C , I knew him from Myanmar, I would certainly agree with all his comments on the Nathan Horton Photography Experience!.. even though I can't quite keep up with his trip number!!

I just returned from Nathan's photography tour of North Vietnam. This was my first photography tour ever. It was a fantastic experience.
The booking process was excellent. All questions (and I had many) were answered promptly. The tour was packed with opportunities to photograph and learn. I took part in the optional pre-tour workshop and found it very useful. During the tour, Nathan was available to answer any technical questions. At each location we were given recommendations on settings. The hotels were great or as good as they could be in a given location. To be able to access some more remote places at the right time/in the right light, we had to make some accommodation sacrifices - well worth it (and we still had separate rooms with private bathrooms everywhere). I enjoyed walking around little towns and villages, seeing and being able to photograph daily lives of local people. I also appreciate the companionship of fellow participants. It was a lot of fun.
I cannot imagine being able to see so much of Vietnam on a regular vacation and never would I have been able to return home with such nice photos if not for the guidance and the right opportunities. I enjoyed the tour so much that before it was over, I signed up for the next one.

Our tour to the Mustang area of Nepal was everything advertised and more. Great photo opportunities, delightful interactions with local people made possible by Nathan, and excellent advice and instruction on photographic techniques and image processing. Great accommodations, and best of all, Nathan is an engaging and attentive travel companion.

Hi, I am very interested in photography but I'm a beginner. Do you do a one day tour? Or what is the minimum days you do? If I can ask how much it will cost? Thank you

Hi Simple Adventure , Many thanks for your interest in my photography teaching. I am open to one day tours as part of a larger group in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap especially for beginners. Unfortunately due to the heat and the start of the rainy season here in Cambodia I am mostly working in other countries for the next couple of months. My full calendar / pre set schedule and associated prices are always up to date on my web site please view there first. If it is still of interest please get in touch with my admin team via the booking forms.
Kind regards

Hi Nathan,
How many people do you take on your photo tours?

HI Jane,
Thanks for your question. We take a maximum of 8 on our tours. Occasionally 9 if the majority of people have done a tour with us before and we know that they know what they are doing!

Hi Julie - What is the pace of the tour?
nathanPhnomPenh
Phnom Penh5 contributions
Thanks for your enquiry. Our tours are quite fast paced structured to give maximum photo opportunities. On the 10 day tour we cover a lot of ground. On some days, particularly when in Siem Reap we do take a break at lunchtime to avoid the crowds and the heat. Also to avoid the bad light for photography in the middle of the day. On most days we are up pre dawn and stay out until sunset. Lunch breaks are a valuable time for downloading and post processing etc. Feel free to contact the people have reviewed here on TA. I am sure that they will reassure you that the pace is fast!

How fast is fast paced? I did a Vietnam trip last year with a competitor, which I considered fairly gruelling. Do you allow for the varying ages and fitness of the group, ( i.e. goat the pace of the slowest ) that not me by the way!!!
Do you organise apick up and transfer on arrival to the hotel? Some finer details would be helpful

hi, can you tell me what the pacing of the tour was like? I know some like to enjoy lying by a pool mid-day when possible, my idea of a great vacation is early mornings straight through till dark... I prefer to rest and catch up on my sleep at home.
