I spent my summer working in Phnom Penh and found myself consistently coming back to the bars around Bassac Lane as opposed to Sisowath Quay (Riverside). Cleaner, less (outright) touristy and no one heckling you for a drink or massage as you walk by.

Much more pedestrian friendly especially the side alley with plenty of bars and eateries to choose from. I personally enjoyed Mama Wong's, Piccolo Italia da Luigi and Elia Greek Kitchen for dinners and recommend The Library, Welsh Embassy, and Backstreet Bar for the bar scene.

Prices vary depending on the bar / restaurant and while it does seem to be geared more towards tourists there always was a decent blend of Westerners, Asian tourists and locals alike, which is always a good sign in my opinion.

Great little area of lots of bars and places to eat with several offering happy hours too. I went here on my own and it had such a nice atmosphere. Not too loud so people could go with groups and here people talk, but with music and bands playing too. Definitely worth a trip for a drink or two...!

Although the prices are on the more expensive side for Cambodia, the cocktails do not disappoint. Although I say expensive, still only $5 for a great Manhattan. So not really expensive at all.

Go check it out, really cool part of town

Only a short ride from our hotel, really nice bar and restaurant precinct. Look for "The Red Bus". It was only new and a really nice place for a meal and a few drinks. Owner was very friendly too. Excellent place!

I love the ambiance! Such a cute street with lots of cool bars! I really enjoyed taking a drink there before heading to dinner. They have really interesting price for happy hours and it is really cheap and good quality!

What a surprise to find this hip trendy little lane in the middle of a developing country!! Loved everything about it...the little wine bars, and decorations. Absolutely loved that you could sit in any restaurant/bar and order from any other restaurant and they would deliver it to you free of charge!!! That's unheard of in the western world!!
The prices of course are aimed at westerners but still completely cheap compared to Australian prices.
Can't wait to go back again!!

I've been a lot of places, but have never found anything quite like the concept of BL. It is not real easy to find, but it is half a block from Malis restaurant (which is also very cool and great food). Very small cocktail bars, one after the other, some specializing in different types of cocktails...then there is the Library Bar. You can buy a drink in one bar, then walk around to others and not worry about leaving your glass. Kudos to George, and his vision. BL will be a regular stop for me when I am in PP!
