The Killing Field and Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) Tour

77 reviews
A professional English speaking tour guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the killing fields of Choeung Ek Genocide Center – 9 miles away south of Phnom Penh. The infamous killing fields have a bloody history. Once an orchard and a Chinese cemetery, the Khmer Rouge, lead by Pol Pot, turned the place into what became known as the killing fields, where they executed around 20.000 victim. Over three years, they massacred and buried 2.5 million people. After remembering the dead, return to Phnom Penh to visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21). Meaning hill of the poisonous trees, Pol Pot turned a once popular high school into a high security prison. 20,000 people were imprisoned there, many of whom were tortured for information. Today it serves as a museum and a reminder of darker days. <br>Your guide will return you to your hotel or guesthouse. .

Great place for any kind of treatments, from physiotherapy, acuponcture, chiropractor to cupping. My MUST is cupping! I love it you're feeling relax after that. It helps me a lot with strong back pain, if relives the muscles. You can trust this place and people who are working there, they are very professional.

Been to the physiotherapist and chiropractor at this spa and because I was satisfied by these services offered, I wanted to try the quality of the massage too. It was drizzling when I went there and the receptionist told me that they have an available masseuse if I want to visit the spa. I then agreed. But carrying a small amount cash in my pocket, I politely asked if I can pay by card which, the receptionist, in turn, told me that sometimes the machine isn’t working so better give it a try first. The first transaction went successful so I paid the massage before I even got it. The massage room (single) was huge and smelled good. The bed was good as well. The masseuse (short and skinny with long hair) didn’t speak good English... she started lightly so I asked if she can do a strong pressure. She obliged. After five minutes, i didn’t feel anything again. I wanted to leave but i knew i cannot ask for a refund of my payment. So i just wait there while she put too much oil ok my skin. To add, she’s more concentrated on her phone which keeps on vibrating on the bed while her other hand is softly touching my skin. Worse massage ever. The owner should take a look at the services provided by his staff. Won’t go again for the spa.

Dear Madam, Sir, I was out of the country and just saw your comment on Tripadvisor. First of all, thanks for your feedback and I am really sorry for what's happened. We looks after our staff and that's why comments and feedback are very important for us. As this staff's behaviors is not appropriated at all, I will take action against her. In order to do that, I will need you name, the day and the time you came for the massage, so we can konw exactly which masseuse it was. You can provide us this information by email at info@samata-cambodia.com if you prefer. I would also inform you, our policie in case of a customer make a justified complain to our receptionist about the service the day of the problem, we provide payment refund (total or partial according to the complain), even the payment have been made by card. Looking forward to hear from you, and hope you will still come back to our palce for a massage, as the bad attitude of one staff doesn't reflect the attitude of the whole staff. With kind regards, Jean-Claude Dhuez Director, Owner

Do not trust the schedule posted online listing classes. It is not kept up to date, nor was the staff helpful or apologetic when I came to a class that turned out to be cancelled for a month.

Haven of peace in the capital, if you are looking for real massages I recommend it! The masseuses are trained by the physiotherapist. There is also care in chiropractic, acupuncture as well as pilate classes!

Dear Johanna, Many thanks for your visit at Sâmata. Training is nothing without a dedicated team of masseuse. I will pass them your nice comment.

We have been very lucky in Cambodia with spa massages until we went to Samata. Our hotel recommended it so my daughter and I went for hour massages and after the massages we felt like we had no massage at all, just lots of oil rubbed on our bodies. My back is knotted and needs a strong massage but the (very nice) therapist was very small and weak and didn’t have the technique to help my back at all. After asking her 4 times for stronger and to use her elbows (which she eventually did but so softly I couldn’t feel it) I gave up and simply asked her to stop 10 minutes early since I was wasting my time. My daughter said she had the same experience (just rubbing on oil with no massage technique). When exiting they asked me about it and I explained what was missing for me (strength and technique) and they told I should have been clearer when I arrived that I wanted a strong massage. Apparently it is the kind of place where if you don’t get a good massage it is the customer’s fault. Not withstanding the poor massage, the people working there are very nice, as are all the people we have met in Cambodia. Accordingly, I wish them well even though my family will look for another spa where we can get a real massage.
