We went there in a relatively cool night. With lights on, it is amazingly beautiful. Without the crowd, you would enjoy the outside garden quietly. Try to see each side of the mosque please. The views would be different. I really recommend a night visit I read of the day visit.

You can take bus #1 a few streets away from Tamu Kianggeh Market to get there. Better to arrive before 10:40 am so you will be allowed to see inside this magnificent temple. You cannot take your camera upstairs, but my eyes will never forget the prayer room. I said: my journey to Brunei has been worth thanks to this very moment. Definetely a must.

Masjid Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, built to celebrate the silver jubilee of the current (29th) Sultan of Brunei, is a truly grand edifice. Signifying that the current Sultan is the 29th of his dynasty, this mosque is embellished with 29 golden domes which are set off by four slender terrazzo tiled minarets in blue, white and cream.
The largest mosque in all of Brunei, this is known locally as the Kiarong mosque. Built on 20 acres of land, it was opened in July 1994. With its intricately ornamented minarets and shimmering golden domes the Kiarong Mosque dominates tastefully landscaped gardens dotted with fountains.
Masjid Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah is located some 2 kilometres away from Bandar Seri Begawan, close to the Kiulap shopping area near the Gadong roundabout. Though close to a busy thoroughfare, the gardens and the fountains conspire to quite effectively keep out traffic noise, and indeed to ensure a serene ambience.
The interiors of the mosque are jaw-droppingly opulent - grand white marble balustrades, acres of fine marble floors, intricately worked high ceilings, columns and pillars, elegantly crafted doors and windows. The predominant colour in the interior is white with touches of gold. Richly ornamented chandeliers add to the mosque's grandeur. The air-conditioned prayer room is just huge - large and very wide with many doors leading into it - myriad richly woven prayer rugs are scattered across the floors of the men's prayer hall.
The impossibly lush green lawns are further adorned by tall green palms. Well tended hedges and huge shade trees add to the green setting. A star shaped blue fountain plays in front of the mosque. At night the mosque looks magical with tasteful lighting giving it a rich golden hue - much like a golden flame!
A designated area is provided for performing 'wudhu', the ritual washing performed by Muslims before prayer - motion sensor taps regulate the water flow! Visitors need to remove their footwear before entering the mosque and ensure due consideration for those at prayer.
Women should cover their heads - both men and women are expected to dress modestly and conservatively. Robes are provided at the mosque to be worn by all visitors. Cameras are not allowed within the interiors of the mosque.
Visiting hours at the Masjid Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah mosque for non-Muslims are:
Monday through Wednesday and Saturday: 0800-1200 hrs, 1400-1500 hrs, 1700-1800 hrs
Fridays: 1700-1800 hrs.
Sundays: 1030-1200 hrs, 1400-1500 hrs and 1700-1800 hrs.
Thursdays: The mosque is closed to non-Muslims.

The scale and decoration of this mosque are awe-inspiring and prayer room (no photos allowed), domes and spires are truly things of beauty. However I’ve taken off one star because of the toilets. Sounds dd I know. But even amongst all that splendour, including some stunningly pretty washing facilities, the toilets, though clean, were dark and soaking wet. This just seemed like an unnecessary oversight.

I did get to drive there and walk around, but was not able to go in as I was there on both a Thursday and Friday. So be aware if you are there on those days you will not be able to go in.

We arranged with our hotel to be picked up at 8.15am and taken to this Mosque.
As we were in another country we wanted to do everything right so we asked for a guide as well.
A young Muslim man took charge of us,we had to sign in and I was given a black robe to wear but no head wear.
You leave your shoes right away from the entrance.
We saw the Male Prayer room and the the Female Prayer room both with wonderful dome ceilings.
There are no photos allowed inside and don't think you can sneak a photo as there are CCTV cameras all over the Mosque.
I think seeing is believing and you really have to visit to appreciate this master piece.
The white marble staircase the massive grounds in fact it's all pretty marvellous

Can I ask for what is the best travel iterinary when in brunei? Like day tour. Thanks

I think an essential for planning is determining if you want to visit the forest, and for how long.
The city alone can be seen in two days, assuming you take your time, check out a museum or two, do at least a little bit of shopping, to the river tour.
Allow at least one day for a forest trip, including the canopy walk. If you enjoy nature (and it's gorgeous there), find a hotel (limited, and only at the outskirts) and stay to relax. Tour companies have sites and you can spend a night or two in the forest outskirts and see the sunrise/sunset at the canopy walk.
Hopefully this provides another set of options.

If you are a filipino gay with long hair but still wear man’s clothing, not a cross dresser, would it be allowed in Brunei?

Whilst I was in Brunei a few weeks ago, I saw some men with long hair in shops and restaurants. Given the publicity around recent law changes, I can see why you’d be asking this but unless a man or woman does anything ‘obviously’ homosexual (kissing their same-sex partner or checking into a double bed room with them in a hotel) then hopefully you won’t have any problems. As for entering this mosque, tying up your hair might be a good idea to avoid suspicion or derogatory glances/remarks. A sad state of affairs I know but probably best given the country’s laws.

of course you can visit, solo, but dress correctly and not during prayer.
you can take a public bus from bus station downtown, stop in front of mosque.
You do not mind showing people around Brunei (for free) depending on your schedule. Is it real?

Hello, from the Kianggeh Market (open market) it would be about 15 minutes drive from Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque. On the other hand the market is about 10 minutes walking distance from the Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
