The Brunei Museum was established in 1965, with its first administrative office at the Civic Centre in Bandar Brunei, now known as Bandar Seri Begawan. Given approval for a building of its own, a location was selected for the museum, on a historical site, at Kota Batu about 5km from Bandar Seri Begawan. The construction of the building commenced in 1968 and was completed in 1970. It was officially opened on February 29, 1972 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom.

Wonderful place for both adults and children alike. Very interesting with lots to see and good to see some of the history of Brunei . The two children with us (age 9 and 5 ) were equally as interested . Quite amazing to see.

An excellent resource to discover the human and natural history of this unique country. Lots of hands-on exhibits. Most of the displays are in both Malay and English.

This museum has been closed for years .As of August 2017 Brunei Museum is still closed. If they open it in the future you will probably need to use taxi because bus service is very weak in Brunei.

We travelled to this place to enrich our mind with the history of Brunei. Got out the front to find it closed, looks like indefinitely. Brunei doest seem to do tourism very well.

A lot of people thought that the Royal Regalia near the city centre is the museum. Actually the Brunei museum is a bit out of town approx 20 minutes from town. It's near the Malay Technology Museum.
