Viral market. In here, you can find everything you need and you don’t need. All in one. Starting from the main gate, all kinds of fruits arranged in a beautiful way, coconut, strawberries, apples, dates etc. It continues to Fish market and Meat market. On the other side, you can find grains, lentils, peas and different kinds of nuts. Cross the road to cloth and shoes market. Many locals approached me to take photos and talk in Bengali language a kind of welcoming words. I love this place.

I just was amazed how crowded and crazy busy this place was. It took us forever to go through the narrow streets. Flavors, sounds, and smells are all around!

Karwan Bazar also known as Kawran Bazar is a business district and commercial hub of Dhaka city. It’s situated very near to the Farm Gate area of Dhaka city, originally established it in the late eighteenth century. It’s is one of the largest wholesale marketplaces in Dhaka city. There are hundreds of small temporary shops in and around the market. The market has separate blocks for wholesale trade in fish, vegetables and rice. There is also a permanent shade for rows of shops that sell grocery items and toiletries. The head offices of several daily newspapers are located here. The office and studio of several Television channels and Radio are located at Karwan Bazar. Offices of many government agencies, autonomous bodies and big companies are located in the area surrounding the market. Pan Pacific Hotel Sonargaon, a five-star hotel is also located at one end of the market. This is one of the busiest and crowded place in the Dhaka city.

In my opinion, Karwan Bazar as one place summarizes almost everything about Bangladesh. It is at a time host of the largest five star hotel of the city, one of the biggest shopping mall, city's second largest fish and vegetable market and also one of the biggest slum. Pick pocketing and snatching is extremely common in this area so it is always better to keep an (extra) eye open when you're here.

This is the central point in Dhaka where all the fruits and vegetable produce converges from all over the country and then are redistributed from there. I usually go there to buy mangoes and other fruits in bulk but it is not a place I frequent regularly.

There are hundreds of small temporary shops in and around the market. The market has separate blocks for wholesale trade in fish, vegetables and rice. There is also a permanent shade for rows of shops that sell grocery items and toiletries. Fish, vegetable and other products are brought to the market from all over Bangladesh. Some goods are imported from abroad. Every night hundreds of trucks bring goods to the various shops of the market. Indigenous means of transport like the vans or pushcarts also carry goods to the shops or from them to purchasers' addresses. Traders of this market export vegetables, fish and other agricultural goods not only to different medium and small markets of the Dhaka city or of the suburbs but also to foreign markets, especially in the Middle-East. It is the largest marketplaces in South Asia. As of 2002, the market had 1255 stores.

This is the main market of Dhaka city. Vegetables and groceries are available here from whole over the country. At midnight lots of Cargo and Truck arrived here with vegetable, fish and other groceries from all over the country. At morning people get fresh items from the Bazar. The fish market is bit busy, this is the biggest fish market in the city. Come here and you will have all daily fresh items at a bargain price.

The Fish Market in Karwan Bazar is busy and bustling with fish mongers wanting to sell a variety of fresh fish such as hilsa, rui, Katal, Shing, King prawns, Boal at amazingly low prices! Mind you, this place is not for the faint hearted!
There is also a vegetable and fruit market where you will find an assortment of the seasonal fruits and vegs at reasonable prices! Mangoes, watermelons, oranges, strawberrries, jackfruits ....
And if you feel a little faint when your done shopping under the sun then head to the green coconut stall where you can order a fresh coconut to be cracked open. The cool coconut water is welcoming in the heat!
