When I was searching for a guide who could show me around Old Dhaka, a friend recommended me Jewel as a guide. Since our first tour I booked several tours with Jewel for showing around colleagues during a business trip or my family. In December 2019 me and my family had two amazing tours with Afridi, a colleague of Jewel to Old Dhaka and Sonargaon. When preparing the tours both Jewel and Afridi have been very flexible in the plans of what to visit. After my first visit, I had an overview of places I like to visit or to show others. It is easy to discuss these wishes with both of them and they provide also own ideas and estimations on starting and ending time, as well as the length of the tours. I always had my personal driver, so we agreed on a meeting point and picked the guide up. Most places are not in a walking distance, so a car is always needed. During the tours, Jewel and Afridi always had an eye on us, the safety of the routes to go and possible discoveries along our routes. Jewel lived for some time in Old Dhaka and therefore knows the people, the authentic places to stop for tea or mishti (sweets) and the way through the tiny streets. If it is a day drip, Jewel and Afridi know clean restaurants for lunch in all places I visited together with them. All in all, the trips have been greatly organized and allow a lot of modifications during the tours and the beforehand planning. I would describe the trips as an introduction into the rich cultural everyday life of the general society in Dhaka. Sightseeing is also a part of the tours, but the focus - and where you can discover most things and get to know different daily routines - is the life of the people. Outside of Dhaka we visited a village on a river island and learned how life is organized there. Both Jewel and Afridi are awesome and knowledgeable guides and I hope to meet them both again when I am the next time at Dhaka.

It is hard to figure out where to start with the wonderful experience we had with Royal Bengal Tours during our week in Bangladesh. Other than a disastrous overnight boat tour which was not their fault, the entire experience was just incredible. The sites, the people and the things to see and do were so above and beyond our initial low expectations for a Bangladesh vacation. Obviously, if you are going to Bangladesh you have seen much of the world first. I’ve been to 102 countries and my wife has been to almost 80 before making it to Bangladesh. That said, this trip was possibly a top five for us for all our traveling. Going to a country where there is so little general tourism creates opportunities and experiences that you just won’t find in most parts of the world. Royal Bengal tour’s work with me to put together a comprehensive package that exposed us to the things we were interested in. Jewel is the man who runs the show and he was extremely communicative with me during the whole planning process. He arranged for our guide, Mithu, to take us to the highlights I was looking forward to and to places I never knew existed. Be prepared to be followed by crowds of both kids and adults hoping to talk with you, have your picture taken with them, and just being enamored by seeing foreigners. Highlights would certainly include a visit outside of Barisal to a gypsy encampment where people were amazingly hospitable to total strangers. We experienced this same environment during a morning the next day to a floating market that provided amazing photo opportunities with the early morning mist. I would also recommend a day trip or an overnight trip to Chittagong where you can have your guide rent a boat as you meander through the world-famous shipbreaking yards that are so unique and fascinating to see. I had hoped that an overnight on the Rocket would be a highlight and memorable experience, but after doing this I would not recommend it to anyone. Is a disaster waiting to happen that can ruin a number of days of your trip. So, ignore the pretty pictures from the Internet and a nostalgic perspective that some put on this trip. Go by train, plane or automobile to avoid this unmitigated disaster. But with that mess behind us, Mithu did a great job getting us back on track with the tour modification that actually was far superior to what we were going to of seen if we had done the very short tourist tour of the Sundabars. Clearly, it was the guidance and support of Jewel and Mithu that made this trip as fabulous as it was.

I can't say enough good about our tour guide Jewel. He was so organized and kind and knowledgable about every detail (and welcomed aaaall our questions). He even fit us in at the last minute. We learned SO much and got a (literal) delicious taste of the market. You'll tour through places you never could find on your own. Lots of walking and be prepared for many different smells! Great option if you can't fit in a full-day experience. You haven't really seen Dhaka until you do this tour! Thank you Royal Bengal Tours! You made my visit!
