National temple of Bangladesh. This is also biggest and beautiful temple in the town. This is mainly Kali temple situated in the heart of Dhaka, near Dhaka University, Shahid Minar, Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil and New Market

Over 800 years old, this is the National Temple of the country. It has a water tank where devotees can take a dip. There are 4 Shiva temples. And the main temple of Dhakeshwari Devi, an incarnation of Maa Durga. There is also a large prayer hall with Maa's idol. Worthwhile place to visit for the believers.

The place is very old, but the buildings are not. We were there just one day after an important celebration and that was interesting.

Very much enjoyed walking the grounds of this beautiful Hindu temple. The pink buildings are really pretty, and the place very quaint.

Few days back we visited the temple. The temple is guarded heavily by police. The temple complex is kept very clean. Temple is kept closed from 14.00 hrs. to 16 hrs. One can get bhog Prasad if informed earlier. They are having guest house also.

The temple is believed to be the reason for the name "Dhaka". This temple dates back probably to the pre Islamic era in Bangladesh, then Bengal. 12th century temple, by all accounts

The temple covers quite a big piece of land in old Dhaka. It has a pond within its boundary. Dhakeshwari MAA idol is in the main temple. And there are few shiva-lingas in the other temples. We need to take our shoe off at the entrance. The shoe keeper asks for some "bakhshish" when we return. Bangladesh police keeps a guard of the entrance and the temple.

Must visit in Dhaka.

Its called Bangladesh's 'National Temple'. The name "Dhakeshwari" means "Goddess of Dhaka".
