I would highly recommend Nijhoom tours if you want to travel around Bangladesh. Raw Hasan was great in communicating and answering my questions before I booked the trip and tour. He was there waiting for me at the airport to take me to my hotel, even though I arrived a few days before my tour started and again he took me to the airport for my departure which was a few days after the tour ended. He is very accommodating and pleasant. My guide, Naeem, during the tour was great and very knowledgeable and there to help with anything if needed. The people of Bangladesh are very friendly and the food we had on the tour was excellent, esp. on the boat in the Sundarbans. The cook on the boat was amazing considering the small kitchen he worked out of. We were well fed. Bangladesh is an amazing place, filled with wonderful people, great food and very safe. The Rocket is an experience but by no means luxurious. Remember, it is an old 1935 British paddle wheeler. Our Rocket was delayed in getting to port in the morning because of dense fog during the night, so they had to stop. It was great though as we saw the life and scenes along the river in the morning that we would not have seen otherwise. Dhaka is very crowded with lots of traffic and people and some of the roads are a bit rough and sidewalks uneven so you have to always watch your step, but that is part of the fun of it. Prices are very reasonable and you can find some great shopping bargains. I would highly recommend Bangladesh if you love out of the way places and don't mind roughing it a bit. If you expect everything to run smoothly all the time and want to travel in luxury then this is probably not for you, but I loved it. I took the Glories of Bangladesh tour which gives you a taste of everything from the bustling city, the architecture, historic sites, the culture, small village experiences, rural life, nature, the wilderness, bird and animal watching. Amazing

I spent three weeks in Bangladesh and joined two tours with Nihjoom Tours - Treasures of Chittagong and Highlights of Bangladesh. Both very very well organised and enjoyable. The itinerary was well planned to include everything interesting there was to see, which in Bangladesh is the often the people going about their ordinary lives. The guide was also flexible and allowed us to make some small changes, skipping things we weren't so interested in, and finding other things that suited us. I liked that we travelled a lot on trains and boats and used CNG (tut-tuks) for short trips. The accommodation was simple but perfectly good, and it's clear that Hasan, the company owner, has cultivated reliable local contacts. We hear many negative things about the security situation in Bangladesh, but at no time did I feel unsafe. In fact I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and curiosity of local people. Hasan is a real advocate for his country and sincerely wants people to come and discover it. I would highly recommend his tours. Inquiries, booking and all arrangements were handled competently and smoothly at all stages of the process.

I did the East and West photo tour as well as Chittagong tour with Faysal.
I am not a very good photographer and I’m not really extrovert. Though, spending a full day with a guide will motivate you to take picture, make people pose for you and practice. Bangladeshi are genuinely nice and no one asked me money (except few beggars of course). In the bazar, people generally had time to spend, discuss and laugh. As long as I started smiling to people, many of them asked me to take picture of them. It empowered me to try some compositions and make them pause (first time I actually dared asking for people to pause for me). People always reacted very nicely to pictures I took and we had good laughs. Faysal sometimes managed few turbulent children to be sure nothing would happen to me. He also helped me making my way in the city, finding the right place every time in the bazar. He also advised me on few ideas people had to take pictures previously. He will also give you insight on the different places.
My Advice: get prepared and look at some blogs before going in order to find some ideas of which pictures you could take. For Chittagong, take a raincoat and if possible spare pants so you can wear something for the 5 hour train travelling back to Dhaka.
Safety: I appreciated to be driven in a recent car with seatbelt and aircon during my tour. I also appreciated that every time we took a boat (Buriganga river and Chittagong), Faysal had a life jacket for me. Note that after one hour in a small boat over the Buriganga river, my lungs were burning a bit as the river is polluted.

To all you Bangladesh potential tourists who’ve been drawn to the Internet wonders of an overnight boat trip from Dhaka to the Sundarbars, HEED THIS WARNING. Before my one week stay in Bangladesh, I had read many of the guidebooks and Internet postings saying how wonderful the Rocket or an alternative overnight boat would be. While my wife and I found Bangladesh to be one of the best places we ever visited (and I’ve been wanting to 102 countries), the experience on this overnight boat was an unmitigated disaster. Our guide company rented us the “finest” VIP quarters on the boat, and the bed in fact was a small sheet of plywood with a piece of carpet on. We did not have to share a bathroom, but saw that many of the other cheaper rooms actually had two twin beds with mattresses. Food on the boat was horrible, even for local standards. Needless to say, neither of us got any sleep that night or food the next morning. To compound the problem, the captain of the boat ran the ship aground on a shoal. He informed everybody not to worry because the tide was coming in and they be free in 30 minutes to complete the journey. In 30 minutes, the tide kept going out and the boat was going to be stuck for more than an entire day. As expected, no apologies and no refunds. We had to pay a significant sum to have a private speedboat pick us up and take us to the nearest city to see something different than the Sundabars (which we could never have made it to). We lost all our money on the prepaid tour in the South, the two hotels we were supposed to have stayed at, and the airline flights we were supposed to have made. This is clearly a trip that sounds very idyllic but in fact opens you up to so many problems that I would never recommend it to anyone.

My wife and I booked the Barisal backwater tour.

I just wanted to say how amazing the tour was.
It has seriously made Bangladesh one of my favorite countries to visit. And I’m a bit mind blown that not more tourists visit.
It wouldn’t have been possible without Opu, our guide. Not only did he have so much knowledge about EVERYTHING he showed us or we asked about, he is also one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He did everything to make my wife and I comfortable, and when he found out what we liked to see, he adapted the itinerary for us so we could spend more time with the locals and also took us to some hidden spots out of the way.
I’m normally not the type of person that writes feedback but this trip with Nijhoom and having Opu as our guide, deserves excellent feedback.

I did the 10 day Highlights of Bangladesh with Nijhoom tours with an extra day tagged on the end to see the ships being deconstructed and recycled on the beaches of Chittagong. The highlight of the trip was the three day sojourn in Sundarban mangrove forest along the coast of the Gulf of Bengal. We saw lots of animals quietly rowing up the creek, like deer, jungle fowl, wild boar, then we became really lucky and stumbled upon a .tiger about to swim across the stream and later two jackels.
This trip is only for the adventurous. Bangladesh has virtually no tourist infrastructure. During the 11 days I was in the county I met only 10 other foreign tourists, three solo travels and a group of 7 Danes. Nijhoom Tours did a wonderful job organizing all the logistics my trip entailed. Our guide even brought linen to use on our beds fearing that the local linen would not meet our standards. In the Sundarban we had a seven man team including a naturalist, an armed guard and a small ship to ourselves (2 people) for the three day excursion. Wherever we went local people welcomed us warmly and we were able to view many activités like ship building and religious rituals up close. However getting around the country required many, many hours travel by train or car which eventually becomes quite tedious. On the last day I did a solo trip with my guide to Chittagong. We flew both ways which I considered money well spent.
People with respiratory problems should stay away from Bangladesh. Dhaka has the third worst air pollution in the world. I carried an air quality monitor with me and discovered that even on the sea coast, the air quality was terrible.
With these provisos notwithstanding, I unreservedly recommend the services of Nijhoom Travel as a tour organizer. I will use their services again if and when I return to Bangladesh.

I did 28 days tour ‘Discover Bangladesh’ with Nijhoom back in January. Everything was well organized from the beginning to the end.

Our guide Faisal, was very flexible with the itinerary, he even took his time off to show us few other places which were not part of the program.

There was not a single sight about the country that made me say this is amazing but the people activities are more than made up for it

Overall, I enjoyed my trip a lot and would definitely recommend Niijhoom to anyone that wants to visit Bangladesh.

I was joining both Old Dhaka and Old capital tour with Arafat was our guide to both tours. I couldn’t say enough good things about Nijhoom’s arrangement.
Before I ever arrive to Bangladesh, they have been helping me to plan my trip, giving me advices for booking my stays and even helped me with LOI for my visa on arrival. The communication was great, feedbacks were swift. Though the owner Raw Hason has his business trip in London and with the times differences, he really manage to reply all my concerns and questions, I admit it was a bit intense to get the LOI just a day before my departure. However, he doesn’t have to do this for me but he was helping me right away when I sent a request. And never forget this guy was doing his best due to the busy traffic in Dhaka, he replied me patiently and on the same time he was rushing to his office to settle all the document for me, a little patience is needed but the outcome was so great, I was so relieved when I got my visa on arrival at the customs.

Our guide Arafat is a funny guy who love to make jokes and also well knowledge of history, buildings, culture, and he is ready for all questions, he showed up on time for the pick up and he made arrangement for our special requests and helped me a lot with posting some postcards, and I wouldn’t have succeeded doing that by my own. He even bought us some delicious street food and dine in local place which made us so happy and with that opportunity, I get to know more about Bangladesh cultural and meeting the local people. And Arafat is a good photographer who made good shots and he is the best guy to know the spots. I just trusted him and passed my phone to him when it was a photo op.

For the tours, they were well organized and scheduled to plan. Old Dhaka tour pretty much has covered all the major historical, religious sites, and the boat ride is relaxing, Dhaka is full of traffic and people, and in the river is less busy, so you could enjoy a moment of quiet and it was awesome. The rickshaw ride was a bit adventure but it was so fun! Our driver was really great too, he always concern and make sure our ride was comfortable. The lunch included in both the tours were delicious and satisfied. Old capital tour was cool to visit a local school built with bamboo and a walk in the local village let us known about the fact of the local people’s living conditions and their daily life, it’s so important if you wanted to know more about Bangladesh, I will say Nijhoom has done a great job!
If I ever revisit, I will join the 6-12 days tour for sure!
Thank you Raw hason and Nijhoom.

I was meant to be doing a 8 day Sundarbans tour in late November but due to a cyclone the week before I travelled the National park was closed. I had already booked my flights so I asked Hasan what my options were. I was travelling solo and 2 others were in the same situation as me and they opted do a tour involving Sreemangal tea plantations + Lawachara national park, Dhaka, and Barisal backwaters tours over the 8 days.

I’m gutted that I never got to visit Sundarbans but I had so much fun on these other tours. A lot of it was down to being with 2 older kiwi women who were good fun but also our guide Arafat who gave an amazing service with everything organised superbly by himself and Nijhoom.

I can’t recommend this country and this company highly enough. I have travelled extensively all over the world and one of the things I loved about Bangladesh was that there are no tourists here at all! People were saying to me “what are you doing here?”

Highlights-
A 17 carriage train coming right by us at full speed through the forest in Lawachara National Park

The night ferries to and from Barisal, wow what an experience, especially the ferry coming back into Dhaka as the sun was rising, never seen anything like it

The people of Bangladesh, so friendly and fun!

If there is one small bit of constructive feedback I would give it would be for the train journey to the Srimangal area to be in 2nd class and not 1st class. You would obviously think that 1st class would be better but you can’t see anything outside in this cabin and as tourists/travellers the 2nd class cabin would be better as you can see the countryside passing by and we are here to see the country!

Can’t recommend this company and country enough, keep up the good work!

I did the 28 day discover Bangladesh tour in January 2000, I’ve visited more then 100 countries and Bangladesh has to be in the top five of countries I’ve visited.
It’s a shame that more people hasn’t discovered this wonderful country, the scenery is beautiful, the people are outstanding, and the history is amazing.
Just one example, my first night In the hotel, I asked where was a good place to eat, one of the young men walked me to a wonderful restaurant. I remember so many other acts of kindness.
MR Hasan the owner of Nijhoom tours is a wonderful person to work with. He made sure we had a wonderful tour with good English speaking guide,
I highly recommend Nijhoom tours, and please go before the country gets over run with tourists and believe when Bangladesh “gets discovered” it will be the hot spot to visit
