This is a complex of plazas. The market has couple doors to enter and inside arranged like a plaza with several courtyards...which I couldnt figure out the plan.
And some parts has 2nd floor and connection to other places. I stayed on the ground level...there are sections. Bookstores, next to them...stationary and art supplies. Ready made garments, children's, sleepwear, imitation jewellery etc.
There is a very good english bookstore right in the corner. You can find good books much cheaper then Dubai. I cant remember the name but will add the picture. No brand name clothing at all, I checked....If there were any must be bad copies. Some western style sweaters etc but ... nothing interesting. Handmade ladies sleepwear and house clothing are nice. Maps, Bangladesh fishes chart, real fur paint brushes can be found.
There are a few saree houses which sells saree material, make one for you (which doesnt require too much tailoring I understand) Sarees, saree blouses and petitte-coats for the inside of the saree can be also found there. Cheapest ready made cotton saree blouse is 140takka.House dresses or sleepwear 250 to 550 with bargain.
Imitation jewellery is low quality. And kitchen items of course most plastic though.
And lungi for man too. I bough a much make pj's and table cloths. Good quality material...but local clothing items can also be found right accross from the street in Chadny Chowk..

This is probably the most popular place for shopping for the people of Dhaka. A very good shopping market where you can find jewelries, bags, clothes, stationary items, bed sheets, pillows - almost all the items you need. The place is very crowded. Things you find here are cheaper than other places but you have to bargain a lot. Almost no shops are here with fixed price. This place and surrounding places are very popular for girls to get their jewelries, and other items. The footpath and markets around Dhaka College has a lot of shops for men's clothes too.

The location is in Dhaka City just nearby Dhaka College. The complex is huge with several courtyards in different sections. You can get branded goods from here in cheaper price such as T-shirt, handbags & luggage, jewellery, tailor-made suits, crockeries, stainless steel cooking pots & pans, etc.
There is 1 thing you need to do is to know how to bargain in better and lower price. Overall, everything is cheap and will come here again to have my massive shopping.

If you want cheap stuff, clothes, jewellery etc, this market has it all. Make sure you try all the clothes on, as the sizes vary significantly. For example the shirt may fit the chest but the arms will be too short. There is also a large assortment of kitchen appliances and bags, as well as good pharmacies and sunglass stores.

The oldest commercial shopping market in Dhaka, New Market has everything from shops selling art collections to sarees. Small restaurants and food shops sell Bangladeshi food and soft drinks. Three arched gates lead to the interior of New Market. The market is huge with several courtyards. There is mosque inside and a car park outside too. Almost everything is available at low prices, which makes this place attractive to people from all walks of life.
Tips: Don't confuse New Market with the other markets which are located in the shopping precinct of Dhaka City because Hawkers Market, Gausia Market, Chadni Chalk Market, Balaka Cine World, Nilkhet Book Market and New Market are all adjacent to each other.

Can I get good replica designer handbags and shoes at the market or anywhere in Dhaka.
Written January 21, 2017
Dhaka strength is in ready made garments ie clothes. you might not be too satisfied with the shoes and handbags you see in the markets. Though there is gradual improvement in the leather industry, the areas you mentioned leaves more to be desired.

I might be spending holidays in Dhaka as my husband will be working there. My question is, would it be safe for me to go to the market with my children aged 9-11? Also as a western tall blonde women, will I stand out and receive negative attention? Do I need to dress in a certain way? I'm guessing shorts are out? Any info that you can provide to keep us safe and not offend the locals and their customs would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
