When exploring the Old Town of Baku you will find this extraordinary sculpture just after the entry gate. In a city with many statues, this one stands out as original and interesting. Not just a bust of the great local Azerbaijani poet and ghazal singer, the 3m-high structure depicts a multitude of images and is rooted firmly as a powerful symbol of his art.

Upon closer inspection you see even more people at this sculpture's head. So brilliantly done. Seems almost like a Russian person with the facial attributes.

Situated in the old town this monument is memorable and is a nice addition to the old town area. I loved my short visit to Baku and the food, culture and history of this city left an impression on me.

A real small wow in the old city of Baku. Very unique and symbolic sculpture. Look at it slowly and enjoy the unique art.

This monument is the poet Aliagha Vahid. He brought back the medieval ghazal as a poetic form which expresses both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of the love despite that.
